Does anyone have an Aquarium? Want to chat about it?

I am interested in birds but also very much interested in fish and turtles. I was wondering if anybody had anything to share. I had to sell my aquariums when I moved due to space concerns, so now I just have birds but here are some pictures and videos I hope you will enjoy and maybe share your own. :greenyellow:

I have had several saltwater tanks. I am currently building a 220 gallon reef, I hope to start cycling the tank by thanksgiving. I'll post some pics tonight!

I love aquariums! I work at a fish store and help run aquarium-talk.com! Senior year in college has forced me down to one tank for time's sake. Here's my 90g. Please pardon the terrible pictures, i'm still fighting with white balance.

Beautiful pictures, everyone!

Though I only have one horribly neglected aquarium at present, I am a lifelong nut for it.

I have kept both fresh and salt water tanks, though I was never brave (or rich

) enough in the past to try a reef.

I would be happy to be involved in any aquarium discussions.

FYI, I have a couple of 12 year old black skirt tetras that seem to be immortal. I can not bring myself to end their miraculously long existence, just to do something else with my 46 bowfront. They are supposed to live only 3-5 years, but I guess these two never got the memo. I suppose inevitably they will go to that flooded rainforest in the sky and I will get to start over.

Wow thats great stuff awesome rockwork!!! Loved it! I envy you reef keepers. I only ever do cheaper 60Gal or less FW setups.

OH PS to get white balance for shooting in a SW tank as its an odd color shade, get a black card and a white card, place them in the tank and have them fill the center 60% of your shutter frame, then white balance to that. Works PERFECT

There is nothing wrong with small tanks, most people I know that have reefs keep nano reefs. Feel free to ask some questions if you decide to venture into salt, I know nothing about fw unfortunately. Usamimi and I are both on the same aquarium forum.

My first sw was a used 35 gallon off of Craigslist. Cost me 100 bucks and had the sand and rock with it, I had to spend about 50 more bucks to get some salt and testing materials.

My white balance is set, but since the tank is SO blue, the camera can barely function. It's like a 20k color temp.

I appreciate the offer. I will never have the funds. My parrots take all my 'spare money' which is almost nothing.

Thanks though. And yes freshwater can be fun too and if you already know SW and YOU ever want to switch ask me. After I explain you'll go THAT'S ALL? REALLY?! It's much simpler. I used to maintain SW setups for rich people as a business with a friend.

Wow that's bizarre. Have you tried using a tungsten preset? Then color correct in photoshop?

I started FW similarly, but on a limited budget

I started with a 15G (24X12x12 inches) which is I believe 60 by 30 by 30 cm, a log, some floating plants, and a blue paradise. Lovely fish to keep.

For anybody passing by here thinking they'd like fish-- if you have the level of responsibility for a parrot, you can keep anything.
An aquarium with a small fish load can be as simple as ignoring it for six days (use an affordable auto feeder on a timer and a light timer) and on the 7th, simply change 1/4 of the water and lightly vaccuum the gravel as you do so. If you have sand, there's one step less. It's so easy. 20 minutes of work a week for so much enjoyment. All you need to do is look at them. That's it. Except that one day a week.

. The auto feeders and light timers have made it much easier. And they work perfectly. Especially from a company called Eheim who also makes terrific filters.

Let us know. Me or the other guys. We seem to have a good 'pool' <pun of aquarium know how here.

A setup with a mated pair of black paradise. 60x30x30cm (24x12x12"). Whole setup with real and plastic plant and light and fish was about $300 Canadian (145 GBP?). That's why I always went freshwater. I could afford it hehehehe.

I LOVE salt tanks! I want to have a wall of my house that's got a salt tank running through the middle... <3 I grew up with fishtanks, unfortuantely, my sister got the knack for aquariums... she's got a HUGE tank with all kinds of freshwater critters. I have my little itty bitty 10 gallon. I've been experimenting with different fish but my stupid gouramis keep eating their tankmates! D: oh well... They just hang out together now, they're all alone in the tank. I had a beautiful betta that mysteriously disappeared, and the three took out my bamboo shrimp early on... poor dude didn't have a chance

Anyways! Here's my tank

haha, thats what i thought but I figured best to clarify.

I'm running a Marineland Model 2 sump, not the biggest but I got it for enough of a deal that I wasn't too worried. I went with it because it actually comes with media trays so i can run Phosguard and Matrix to try to help with nitrates and phosphates without using a reactor. It also has a giant biowheel, you can never have too much biological filtration right?

Does anyone have an Aquarium? Want to chat about it?
