When it rains, it pours.

So.... our savings was wiped out just two months ago. And when I say wiped out, I literally mean, there wasn't even a penny left.

Hubs and I had worked really hard to get ourselves out of a really bad hole we'd dug ourselves into years ago. We managed to get almost completely out of debt, whittled everything down to one credit card to pay off, paid off both cars a little early and had money in savings. Then... He lost his ability to do the job he's been doing for the last 9 years, due to a medical condition. As a result, he had to take a significant pay cut. And I mean, significant.

Shortly after the pay cut happened, his truck decided it wanted some maintenance. So, 3 oil leaks, a pump switch, plugs, a belt and oil change it was! Unfortunately, just after that, our computer died. And I mean it died. Dead. Not even toaster-worthy. We have to have a computer, there just is no way around it so it wasn't like we could put off fixing it. But because it was the motherboard, we need a new one of those. But our motherboard was so old, we had to also replace the processing chip. Which also meant another fan needed to be installed.

And there went the savings

So guess what happened today? His truck broke down. He never made it to base. I've only managed to put a small amount back in to savings because of getting Sugar vetted and a few other things. I can't decide if I should or

Im sorry to hear that!!! I hope things get better for you. We're both fortunate that we get paid pretty good now, we were in a hole for awhile when one of us lost our job in two separate occasion but was quickly employed again, both time someone that knows us call to see if we would work for them without even knowing about the job loss.....its like god was watching over us....Things will get better for you!!! Have faith!

Yikes!! I'm sorry to hear of your troubles.
You're right, when it rains, it pours. I'm thankful financial issues aren't concerning us right now, just got through that one, now it's health issues in the family.

Lol, Mare, actually we've been plagued by health issues too and the stress of dealing with military insurance ... Let me tell you, it should not take three months, two referrals/requests and then the actual doctor calling your insurance company and fighting with them on your behalf to get necessary medical equipment for your seven year old! Not to mention that it's medical related issues that caused the pay cut.

I'm just feeling a little sorry for myself. I'm just super thankful that Hubs got his motorcycle endorsement and we have a neighbor with 2 bikes, who are willing to let Hubs take the one they don't use, until we can get his truck fixed.

Insurance companies SUCK! Their job is, NOT to pay for medical care, I swear!
My daughter, who is now 30, was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 26. She was with Blue Shields. The grief these people gave her was, I have no other word but, inhumane. I would be with her through many of her chemo treatments and she would have to battle it out with her insurance company, on her phone while still at the doctors, right AFTER her treatment! They tried to deny her treatment, originally, and her oncologist spent two hours on the phone, one evening, talking with someone in the Phillipines, fighting for her. Yes...insurance companies, SUCK!

Katherine..so sorry to hear that this is happening to you. I've only caught up to you once when I had a question and you offered to help..you have a heart of gold. You and your husband are fighters and know how to tough things out. You did it before..you'll do it again and get back on your feet and move forward. This type of thing makes us stronger and able to roll with the punches vs those that have everything handed to them. Scream a little, cry a LITTLE then just keep going..you can do it.

Yikes! It seems we can never just have ONE bad event, we need a whole series. I know the feeling. This year hasn't been so hot for me so far. i'm kind of just waiting for it to end and hoping no other tragedies befall us!

That's awful! I have Fibroid Cystic Disease and was told I needed to start getting mammograms as early as 35 because the Fibroids make it impossible to tell if there's a lump of any kind. I can't imagine being in my mid-twenties with breast cancer and having to fight for treatment.

TriCare (military insurance) is usually pretty darn good, despite the complaints I have about them. But when something goes wrong with them... oh boy does it go wrong! Last year, they insisted that I had another insurance coverage and that they were secondary and so they wouldn't cover the MRI that had been ordered. Six weeks I fought with them, even called the other insurance company TriCare swore I was covered under and that company could find no record of me whatsoever. After six weeks, TriCare finally straightened it out. But I had absolutely no medical coverage for that 6 weeks because TriCare is only a secondary insurance when you have civilian coverage.

I'm glad your daughter it alright. My daughter has a severe case of Sleep Apnea, and despite having her tonsils and adnoids removed, it's still severe. So she needs a CPAP. TriCare was refusing to issue her a CPAP machine for reasons they did not disclose. I sat in her Pediatric Sleep Spe******ts office for over half an hour while he argued with these people and was transferred. They kept saying they had no record of the request, which is ridiculous since he had sent it over twice and the contracted company had also sent it over twice. But they had no record of it? Sorry... I digress.

Thank you. Hubs even said "we've been worse off than this!" and he's right. We'll pull through and manage. It's just very frustrating in the mean time.

I'm thankful this morning for small miracles. A few weeks ago I suggested that after the move, Hubs should get a motorcycle since you can ride a good percentage of the time down there (unlike here). If he's the only one driving to and from work, a motorcycle makes much more sense than a single-occupant in an SUV. So we took the safety course through the Navy, just two weeks ago, and got his endorsement here since the course is free through the Navy. He was then able to go the next day and get his endorsement on his license.

One of our neighbors actually has not one, but two motorcycles, one of which they almost never use. They had offered him the use of the one bike for practice, so when the truck died yesterday, I took the off chance of asking if they would even entertain the idea of allowing him to borrow the bike for him to get to and from work until the truck is fixed. Not only did they say yes, but they made sure that any gear he didn't have (which wasn't much) they outfitted him with with some of their extra stuff. So, he's making it in to work today!! And has a way to work until the truck is fixed. Hopefully, that isn't too long!
