Being a good parront / raising a good baby

Hi all well I bring my baby home on Saturday he willbe 5 1/2weeks old alexandrine

I have hand raised before but never really put much thought into actually educating these babies and I want to do things right this time both for myself and baby

Please advise me what I need to teach my bird and how I go about it

I have ordered an aviator harness so I can start getting him used to that asap and then we can do visits to the cafe etc get a few more hands on so he is ok about being touched by strangers and not freaked out by all the noise etc

Foods, bathing, flying, toys, toilet training , self entertainment , etc etc
any and all advice appreciated thanks

I advise to read read and study (something you know how to do) all about bonding, body language, nutrition, environment and keeping them safe, behavior, vet exams and what to expect. Some other things you may need are a birdscale and full spectrum lighting which is so important. This will keep you busy for a while. One other item is to read up on what this species is like in the wild so that you will get a good idea of what they need in captivity. Most of all have fun and enjoy. They are super gorgeous birds.

I have done alot of reading so far and god I'm
no where near finished

I don't think you ever are when it comes to birds

but any extra tips are great !

Thanks though for reminding me about the scales I knew there was something but I couldn't remeber lol
putting them with my kit now

1sr vet visit is booked for 8 weeks old and includes DNA sexing and will book another when fully weaned
I'm sooo super excited I haven't slept in 3 nights and I still have another 2 to go

One more thing I just thought of is a first aid kit. Or you can put together the items that may be needed. Take a deep breath and try to relax. It is as exciting or even more so than bringing home a new human baby. Don't forget a video camera. I have a fantastic one that is so so easy called the flip.

Don,t forget your bird diary the most important thing l have found .
Record all he eats his weight his baby steps etc will be great to look back at in years to come not to mention a change in his eating pattern can help your avian vet if u find him sick one day . ( Hope that never happens )
