I have finally found a good seed mix after Kiwi's old one was no longer available to me, and in the mix, it includes some pellets. Don't panic;), he still gets fresh produce and cooked grains and healthy table foods, but I also include a seed mix too as part of a varied diet. I saw him munching on one of the pellets the other day (much to my surprise) and I'm not really sure if I want him eating those pellets because they are orange and green (i.e. have dyes). I assumed he would fling them which is why I didn't think too much about picking them out. I will from now on though. Theres not a lot of them, and it's a otherwise good mix with a lot more than just seeds and he eats most of whats in it unlike most large hook bill mixes he flings most of:20: (brand is Vitakraft menu, and I only give him 1/8cup of seed mix a day. I'm very meticulous about portioning foods so he's getting variety and not too much of any one thing and maintains a healthy weight).

I figured if he was sampling the pellets in the mix, he may be broadening his horizons in that direction;) After some research, I decided to order a sample of Goldenfeast Goldn'obles to see if he might like them, as they are organic with no dyes or preservatives and do not contain added synthetic "vitamins".

I've heard many people rave about other pellet brands and lots of people talk about other Goldenfeast mixes, but I haven't heard of anyone ever feeding these before. Wondering why that is, given that they are very natural? Do birds not like them, or is it the price, or they just aren't well known? I don't plan to make them his main diet, just another addition if he likes them (thus the sample size, those things are EXPENSIVE:eek:). They have a cheerio-shape, so I thought they'd be good strung up like edible beads:)

I give them to my sennies, which I've had a hard time convincing to eat any pellets. They're hit and miss with them.

So Kiwi appeared to like these:) When I held it up I asked him if he wanted a Cheerio lol, he seemed confused when he began eating it (he gets actual cheerios and like them, so I think he was confused by the taste;)), but seemed happy enough. Due to the crunchy nature of the pellets, a lot seemed to be wasted as he chewed them:( Any idea what "ratio" of water to pellets I would want to add to see if he liked them mushy?

I feed them here and everyone likes them including the eclectus. Jillie likes breaking them up into powder I am not sure how much she actually eats but for whatever reason she likes pellets in her foraging toys and these work well for that. I have noticed a really yummy smell to these unlike TOPS which look and smell like rabbit food!
I think more people would try these if they weren't so darn expensive but I do like them and since I don't feed large amounts it lasts long enough to keep it worth it for me. I do keep them in the frig as suggested once they are opened. I haven't tried soaking them so I can't answer that. I have put some crushed ones on the top of birdie bread and it bakes up nice.

I just want to clarify that the amazons get these more than the eclectus I have cut down giving them any kind of pellet but as I said Jillie likes them in the foraging toys and when I put anything else in it she doesn't touch it so I still use them in very small quantities.

Well, that went over like a lead balloon:( He flung them like they were poisonous when I soaked them. I gave him a dry one and he ate it:20: I intend them as more of a treat anyways, I like Kiwi to have a varied diet, not any one food.

I've never tried soaked either, might try that as the sennies throw as many to the bottom of the cage as they actually eat

:eek:Kiwi eating pellets wow!! jk ;). I'm glad he like it. Funny how he was confused by the Cheerios shape! I've also heard really good things about Goldn'Obles. Maybe I'll try it for the Poi's when I don't have so many other bags. It seems I've read somewhere it has a higher protein content, so I'm not sure if I should regularly give them to Raven until I consult with the vet how much protein is okay for Pionus, since they can develop problems from having too much protein on a regular basis.

I just recently took these out of Chili's diet, because in combination with the other things she eats, there was too much protein- at our recent vet visit, she said golden obles are really high in protein.

I do intend for them to be more of a treat than a diet. I will never feed Kiwi any one food, I just don't think it's healthy, be it pellets, seed, grains or produce.....

Kumar wouldn't eat them either. I got a sample from the manufacturer but no way would he touch them...I even tried breaking them up so they weren't Cheerios shaped, but he wasn't fooled.
