I have always soaked the beans before giving them to my FIDS but now wondering if I should cook or boil them before giving them. What do you guys do?

I soak them, usually overnight, and then cook/boil them.

Yes, look into the type of beans you are using, many are toxic uncooked! Not die toxic, but wish you could die toxic!

I learned the hard way, or, my family did!

I buy the 15 bean soup mix so there is quite a variety of them

I also use the 15 bean soup mix. I soak over night and then drain & rinse, then cook at a rolling boil or simmer for at least 20 to 30 minutes, sometimes longer just depending on how done I want them.

Same here~ 15 bean mixes usually have kidney beans in them which should be cooked before served.

Good to know. They will be cooked in birdie bread this time but should I boil them first? How long do you boil them for?

Go by whatever the directions on the bag say, because it can differ on the type of beans in the mix. You want them to be tender, so check for doneness. I like to cook them until skin starts to get soft and fall off.

Yes, definitely cook them first. I use the 15-bean mix...this one (WITHOUT the spice mix, of course):

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Mine get cooked beans.

When I make them for us/in something I'm making, they get some.
