Hi everyone, ive recently joined and im needing some help and advise on getting my Sun Conure, Flame to eat more veggies and fruit. Were trying new stuff every couple of days or so but it seems to be slow although today weve found out we like the tiniest amount of scrambled egg. So ive just been to the shops and come back with :

Carrots,Brocoli,Sugar Snapp Peas, Bell peppers, Cous Cous, Sweet Potatoes and More apple. Apples she loves.

Im sorry if this seems a silly question, should the Cous Cous be warm ?

How much should i chop up? Just a tiny bit of it all or should i try her on each veggie and fruit seperate first ? And is there a best time of day to try new food ?
Thank you for your help. :)

Sorry for sounding stupid !

Let Flame tell you.

Early on I could tell that Loki didn't care for big pieces of veggies. When I chop them fine and mix them with other stuff (like Cous Cous and Quinoa) he chomped it down. So, his veggies are finely chopped.

Once I got him eating the fine.y chopped veggies, I was able to introduce other veggies in addition and see if he likes. Examples of this are: he likes green beans, sweet potatoes and squash and will eat the bigger pieces of this now....

I constantly try new things when I can to mix up his diet and give him variety. When we try something for the first time, I may even put it on a paper plate and sit beside him eating (or pretending to eat it) to get his interest. This makes him much more willing to give it a try if he sees me eat it and I don't fall over dead...its like I'm his royal food tester.

Lastly, I try to do a lot of "stuffed" veggies. mini peppers stuffed with cous cous and quinoa, or jalepenos stuffed, etc. He seems to respond to this type of meal with interest (again, the first stuffed pepper he got was one I was pretending to eat. Be careful with the jalepenos tho, I forgot I was handling it and rubbed my eye. Ouch)

"Royal Food tester" lol thats funny !!

Thank you so much for the help Weezerj. I bet that was ouch !!! I do tend to sit ont he floor with something new, and eat it myself, she cant help herself but come down and see what it is ! I wasnt too sure if the dropping it was " nah dont like that " or if it was a " Im not interested right now " !!
Shold i put in on a plate so she can see rather than her having to get her head in a bowl to have a look ?

If she is taking it from you and then dropping it, she probably doesn't care for it yet....

One thing to note is that Loki didn't care for much of any veggie at first. After a while of getting finely ground peppers and other veggies he developed a taste for them and saw them as food. Slowly he came around to more than just mouthing them.

I also try new veggies in the morning when he is most hungry...but I work during the week, meaning Saturdays and Sunday mornings are usually "new food" days.
