why wont my parrotlets come out?

Hi again everyone its craig, And i have another question. Ihave opened the cage for my Parrotlets to come out for 3 days now and they are still not even coming down to the door to investigate it. Im worried that if i make them come out that they will not want to go back in again and i wont be able to catch them. so please advise on what to do? As i wrote in the other thread they are 5 months old and a breeding pair and i have had them about a week and a half now. if anyone knows of any good sites to read up about them or any good books please tell me, as i really want to train them both. :green2:

Your bird's must have time to settle down and adjust. Just imagine how many new things the bird has encountered. So many new faces and voices, it must be so scary.
To gain your trust could take days, weeks, months even years. Each and every bird is so different. He obviously feels a comfort zone is their cage.
Sit near the cage, talking and singing to the birds. Let them become familiar with your voice. Leaving the cage door open, offer him treats through the bars at first. When he willingly accepts them, try placing a treat near the open door. Eventually they will starts taking the treats from the door, make no attempt to touch them. When they do come out, they will probably climb around on the cage. Let them explore in their own time. To get them back in, place a treat inside the cage, making sure it's visible.

Just give them time, a week and a half isn't a long time at all. Keep opening the door, talking softly to them and maybe try to entice them with a treat. If they do come out and you need to get them back in, use a towel. It might take awhile but rushing it will just set your progress back.

My boys came out the first day but were handfed baby brothers. Today they won't come out of the cage because they just got a huge, new cage full of new toys, they can't be bothered.

Parrotlets are on of those species that really should be caged individually if you want them to remain tame. I've known some green rumps to share a cage and still be social but I've never personally known any pacifics that stayed tame after they had a cagemate.

Three days is not long at all. Patience, patience, and more patience! Antoinette's advice is perfect. Their whole universe just got turned upside down, so give them a while to figure out this is now home forever.

thankyou everyone for your advice, just one more thing. You all say about giving them nice treats, everything i offer them they do not eat so have you any advice on treats? i have ordered a book called the parrotlet handbook but it has not arrived yet. i really want them to get used to me as they are 2 beautiful birds :green2:
