I just got a new rescue Meyers named Brooklyn! He's a 5 year old super sweet guys and has been getting along with my 5 year old female Meyers Tukki really well so far (despite some normal little squabbles).

Right now they have their own separate cages, but hang out together on the same tree stand when my boyfriend and I are around to supervise.

We were thinking that eventually if they get along and everything we might be able to put them in one larger cage together. Or is it best for them to have their own separate spaces?

Also my boyfriend wants to maybe change Brooklyns name (despite me thinking it's pretty cute.) Do u think this would confuse our new little guy too much?

Thanks!!!

I have been working with end of life Amazons for over 45 years! We never change their names! It's simply our belief that its the one thing they still have regardless of whether it was an easy transition or not!

Also, never believed in a shared cage for any Parrots. Its just not wise for a long list of reason.

Just my two cents, other will be along with theirs'!

No, do not ever force them into the same cage, as they were not born and raised together, and #1 they need their own, safe spaces, and #2 even though they seem like they're getting along together, that's while they aren't getting territorial about a single cage. A single cage changes everything and you'll likely end up with two very jealous, territorial, fighting birds, and in the end this situation ALWAYS ends up with an injured or dead bird.

And please don't change a 5-year old bird's name! Would you like someone to change the only name you've ever known? That's his name, it's the only constant he's had throughout god knows how many owners. Have some respect and let him keep the one thing he knows and is used to please.

1000% agree with the above! Something to think about, you and your significant other may share a lot of common space, but you still have your separate space that allows you to just be your own person!
