For quite a while now I have been thinking about getting a quaker, but read on another thread that they were loud. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me how they compare to tiel's volume wise?

Thanks for the response. When I am ready for a second bird I will have to try to spend some time with a screaming quaker. It's not a question of my tolerance of the noise so much as the neighbor's.

They can be loud, but so can all parrots at times. I have a male quaker and also an amazon, and of course compared to the amazon he is quiet! He is extremely affectionate , and very quick to learn new words.

I have never had a Quaker, but the one that flies around my vet's office is pretty screechy. However, I don't think she is as loud as my conure is. It's a different pitch though, higher and maybe scratchier, if that makes sense.

It's not always so much the volume but how often they do it as well. My amazon can be my loudest bird, but he rarely screams. My conure is pretty vocal a lot of the time, but not necessarily loud all of the time.

It's definitely a good idea to spend time with one to know for sure if you can tolerate it, and whether you think your neighbors can. You can always talk to your neighbors first as well. They may not care. Mine say they can't hear my birds from inside their houses, although none are close either. They can hear them when they are outside, but say they don't mind at all.

No doubts in my mind, Quakers are one of the loudest birds. I rescued one last year and had to give him back because people in my apartment were complaining about the screaming bird. It even hurt my ears.

The quakers at my local bird store are significantly louder than my conure Lucy, and she's got some vocal cords... Look up a video on youtube, turn your volume all the way up and see
Edit// I didn't really answer your question haha, a quaker is about 4-6 'tiels.

'Tiels are generally among the quieter parrots, and most any Quaker is likely to be louder than the average 'Tiel. But not all Quakers are noisy or loud; my QP Ralph isn't. Every parrot is an individual, so you'll find that some Quakers are pretty quiet, and some are loud and persistent noisemakers.

Currently bird less.
I used to have a Quaker. Right now I have a Blue Fronted Amazon and am birdsitting a cockatiel. I have to say that it really depends on the bird. My Quaker used to start screaming when I left the room and he was much louder than the tiel or Amazon that are here with me right now. My husband was just about ready to divorce me. lol

I have 3 Quakers & they are not loud. In fact they are very good. Sometimes they get a bit noisy but it's usually alarm calls when the feral birds are near their aviary. As pets 1 Quaker isn't very noisy although i feel my hen is a lot louder than the males.

I donated Tiko to my workplace... and someone has taught him to whistle really LOUD!

Shrek was never that loud... Quakers seems to have a 'low' voice...

My quaker, Millie, squawks either in displeasure (me trying to pick her up when she doesn't want it) or as a contact call (me leaving the room). Always try to find some action that you would rather the bird do and train that. Millie says, "Where's Mike" as a contact call. Sometimes, "What'cha doing?". It's better than squawking but it too can be too much.
