My brother brought home his new fid!

I'm so excited for my brother. He finally brought home his new feathered kid today! We originally thought we were going to get an Indian Ringneck parrot, but we brought home a Quaker parakeet instead.

This little guy is so sweet. He loves to be cuddled all over, and he makes sweet purring and growling noises when you pet him. He is very playful, and will gently tug on your fingers and mouth your nails.

We're going to recieve his DNA sexing results some time next week. Then, we'll be able to name the little baby!

Congratulations to your brother (and you) for adding a Quaker to your family! Quakers do make life more interesting and exciting. There's a lot of personality packed into those little feathered bodies.

Quakers love preening their human friends, and fingernails and hangnails are popular targets for them. They also love trying to remove moles and scars-- and anything else they think shouldn't be there. They are also notorious jewel thieves-- any kind of jewelry, watches and eyeglasses are fair game to a Quaker parrot (my Quaker Ralph once reset my watch so it was running an hour and twenty minutes slow!).

That purring means you have a happy and contented Quaker! It's a nice thing to hear.
