Cleaning out basil

Hi there, just a query please, when cleaning out my new quaker is it best to remove him from the cage? Basil will not step up at the moment as I have only had him 1 week...so I would have to grab him out( gently of course!) and perhaps put on an external perch( which I'm worried he wont stay on). I have been sliding his tray out and cleaning ot whilst he is in there, but I have read threads that say remove him? He does not mind me messing in his cage whilst he is in there and shows no signs of stress...but he also has not come out the cage yet to explore although I have been leaving door open as often as possible.

I just want to do the right thing so any advise is great.

I’d choose the method Basil is most comfortable with. If it causes him less stress to stay inside while you clean that should work out fine.

Since Basil doesn't object if you clean his cage while he's in it, there shouldn't be any problem if you do so. My QP Ralph doesn't mind if I clean his cage while he's inside, though sometimes he wants to help me clean, usually by stealing the paper towel I'm using. That's his idea of helping.

Thanks for the replies...I will carry on cleaning him inside for now and when I can eventually get him out and get him on his stand, i will do it the other way.
