My baby grey, Ida, I am thinking her name will be, uses a flight suit/diaper. I would like to keep this going, so I can hopefully bring her outside at some point. Anyone use these? Where do you buy yours? Like? Dislike? Any input would be great. Also I go get her on Friday, and here is the newest pic sent to me. ;)

OMG....I love the flight suits for my birds...I can't think of a bad thing about them.
This way my birds get to go outside with me...we go for bicycle rides and long walks...
The best place I have found to get them is Wanda's Critters on the web....she is so nice and if you have any questions she gets back to you immediately....When ordering a flight suit be sure that you get the leash too...they are usually sold seperately from the suit.
Wanda's Critters Etc.

Here is my hahns macaw (Dusty) in his american suit and my caique (Leroy) in his tux...LOL

As you can see, Dusty (hahns) suit was to big...I contacted Wanda and she gave me ideas for taking it in and making it fit.

My gosh, how cute. Dusty & leroy are cute too. I would have expected more fanfare when you presented your new grey. She was really checking you out when you took the picture. Flight suits? are they hard to clean? Congrats on the new baby.

They say to hand wash but I throw mine in the washing machine on a cold wash and haven't had any trouble.

Oh I haven't picked her up yet. I get her on Friday. This is just a pic the breeder sent me the other day. :)

Thanks for the link. I'll check her site out.

Your bird is a doll. She still has those innocent dark eyes...I love it.

Great that you brought this topic up as I am interested in these Flight Suits as well for my 6 month old Galah but he has not been taught to wear them yet

Any tips?

Kitt, do they stay on well? I was looking at the website, and it attaches with velcro right?

I have one for my cockatiel. The velcro is really strong. You don't have to worry at all about your bird coming out.

Yes, if you are sure to get the proper size they fit beautifully....I have had Leroy's for three years now and there is not a thing wrong with it and the velcro is still super strong....
If the suit does not fit close to the body then it is not the proper fit...if they are able to pull their feet up into the suit once it is on then it is to big. Do not take your bird outside with it on if it fits like that.
The reason I go with Wanda's Critters is because her customer service is excellent and when I find that, I let everyone know...also, she has such cute suits...

Oh, I almost forgot....if you look at the pic of my babies in their suits...you will see that Leroy's tux fits snug to his body and Dusty's has a gap in his suit...I had to take his suit in a little and shorten the straps....I also love that they have the little diapers in them so you don't have to worry about getting pooped on...that is always a BONUS!!!!

What I did was hang the suit very near to Dusty's cage for a few days....after about three days, I started hanging the suit right on the outside of his cage but with my supervision....he would then get up the courage to investigate it and chew on it a little bit....after about a weeks time, I put it on him....he doesn't like to be touched so I had to towel him to get it on him but that wasn't a big deal.....he then started to chew on it...I tried to bribe him with an orange but no dice....he wanted the suit off...that is normal but they do get use to it. I left it on him for about a half hour.
Here is a short little clip of him chewing on it...not a happy camper.LOL Plus you can see how big it is before I took it in...I hope this helps...Best of luck....

Thank you so much for you advice

So you are quite happy taking your birds outside wearing one, feeling confident that if they get a fright and take off you still have hold of them with the leash?

I keep the leash very short when outside.....when I take leroy to work I just leave it normal length......to be honest he just stays curled up by my neck....
I suppose all birds are different...I am just very happy with the flight suits....I had tried a harness with Leroy and he hated it and it seemed so bulky and uncomfortable...maybe they make them different now...

The important thing is that you are doing your research about them...there are videos on youtube about putting them on your bird too....

Your new baby is absolutely precious!! Congratulations!

I'll have to check out the flight suits from wanda pretty soon here; I am hoping to have a certain african grey at home with me within the next two weeks.

All the luck in the world to you both!

My Lilly (U2) uses a premier bird harness and I didn't have to train her to use it, she already used it before I got her.. I dont have to worry about Poop as she is pottytrained and will only go in her cage or if on me for long periods when we are out I bring her away from me and she poops on command.

this is what the harness looks like:

See siggie :)
I wouldn't trust my birds with velcro. I'd be too paranoid -

A short strip of velcro between my birds flying away and getting killed? No way!

But then, I've never actually used them.

The velcro is a lot stronger than you may think. I thought the samething, but then I tried one, and realized that little strip of velcro is pretty darn strong.
