I got Bob in late May and was told that he was just under two months old. He seems to have started to molt, I have seen clumps of down laying around and a few outer feathers. I have recently noticed Bob making a soft chirping noise. In the past it has been while I was holding him, but tonight he did it in his cage. Is this normal; should I be worried? If I don't hear anything definate by Tuesday I will ask the vet.

Keats (budgie) born Feb. 18, 2011, and Raphael (budgie) adopted July 3, 2011. Finn, a Brown-Head Poicephalus, born January 4, 2010, has also joined the family!
I, too, would think soft chirping is simply contentment. Are there other signs that make you think it's illness?

You know your bird best, Stephen. Is it a soft happy sounding chirp? Soft chirping usually is considered to be a good thing, usually a sign of contentment :) All of my birds have made a soft chirping noise. :) You can always ask the vet, just for a sound mind :)

I'll call the vet to be sure, but he seems happy and healthy. He started playing with his toys about a month ago, and has recently started showing off his wings for some reason. He will stand on a perch, lean forward and spread his wings. But other than the chirping that is the only new behavior.

Stephend, are you sure you have a male teil there??? That sounds very much like a hen when she is wanting to mate. Althought the male can emit a constant chirp while mating.:)
