So damn cute & learning fast!!
Hey everyone, I need help comparing and contrasting between two diffrent birds… a Hahn Macaw and a Turquoise Indian Ringneck.

For the past year or so I've wanted a bird and I've done a ton of research on which bird would best suit my family and I. I've narrowed down my search to a Hahn macaw. They'r cute, lively, fun, and even a bit bratty *ahem* I should say nippy - but that gives them personality, doesn't it?

I've already bought a cage, toys, and everything else for a Hahn Macaw and I even have my name on a waiting list for a hand raised baby, which might I add, hasn't even hatched yet.

…but something happened.

There is a baby Turquoise Ringneck baby girl who has been DNA sexed and she's about a third of the price of a Hahns macaw ($170 rather than $550)… and she's SO cute! Plus she needs a home! I think rignecks are adorable… but I know close to nothing about them. Actually, I know nothing because I've not done any research on them… but am I out of my mind on considering an IRN if I've already bought everything for a Hahn?

Can anyone tell me what an Indian Ringneck is like? I've seen videos and they're so adorable!!! Then again, I know that all birds are not like the bird in the video, but can someone help me with just a few questions?

Just a few questions:
In comparison to the Hahn Macaw, what is the temperament of the IRN?
Are the IRN's close in size to the Hahns?
Which bird is more "sensitive", the IRN or the Hahns?
Which of the birds are more "family orientated"?
Which bird needs more attention?
I live in the tropics (Hawaii), would this be ideal for a IRN or a mistake?
If anything, what can you tell me about the IRN in comparison to the Hahns?

_______________________________________________________________________

My last question may be somewhat stupid… but if I bought both babies (an IRN and a Hahns) would they bond if they were young enough? Or is that just poppycock - causing the birds to hate each other or become less friendly to people? Sorry for so many questions.

Howdy kawaii....as far as having a IRN as a pet, I am only learning myself...we had Indi a blue IRN we got him at 8-9 months old from an avairy...that was my first mistake, I should of got a baby...I tried my best with Indi, but had no luck even getting near him...actually he was like a wild bird in my back room..I couldnt even get him to clip his wings...unfortunately he was not suited for us as a family pet...he has since found a new home, with other IRN's...as hard as it was for me to make that decision to let him go, it was the best thing for our family....since Indi's departure, we have had the opportunity to aquire a 5 week old blue IRN, we named HARO...I cant tell you what HARO will be like in years to come, but at least he will be handled, tame & have rules...lol...Haro is such a snuggly little baby at the moment...i take him everywhere...I really think it is up to you, as to what parrot you want to get, after all they will be a reflection of the way they are raised...I am sure a Hahn macaw or IRN will be great companions for you...my sister in law has a yellow IRN named junior, & he is the sweetest thing, he is like a sooky dog with feathers...lol...my sister will say to him..."junior..kiss...kiss''...& he replies "kill...kill", & then makes a kissing noise...so cute..anyway perhaps someone else here that has had an IRN for a long time, mite be best answering your questions,..i can help out down the track when Haro gets older, & starts developing personality & attitude...lol.
Have you ever seen a movie called PAULIE..about a blue crowned conure??..if you can get it watch it..that is how I have always dreamed my parrots to be like...so tame & placid..
here is our new baby HARO
Hope you get your answers...take care
