My best friend is due to give birth in late Dec- early Jan & she's all the way down in Fl aaandd I'm buying my first car this Dec. If I can get everything figured out with the insurance by Xmas I'm thinkin' roadtrip
Romeo (my dog) is def coming with me. But if I can't find anyone I trust to watch Loqui then she's coming too.

I know having a collapsible cage for the car will help. Some articles suggested modifying a dog crate or ferret cage for this purpose. I also have a modified cat carrier that Loqui came to me in that could be useful for getting him to and from places when the cage needs to be collapsed and moved somewhere else like from car to hotel room.

This trip may not even happen I was just brain storming & a bunch of questions came up but here we go:

-Keeping a bird warm while traveling in January thru NJ & surrounding states: I know the further south we go the warmer it'll get but would it even be smart to expose Loqui to the winter air if let's say it's snowing up here or something? (I mean getting him into & out of the car obviously, I'm not gonna be traveling with the windows down or anything lol) Would the cold make him sick?

- Car heater: I've heard certain heating methods are not safe for birds. Is the car heater safe?!

- Hotels & pets: How will I be sure my bird AND my dog will be safe if I leave the hotel room & house keeping comes around? Has anyone had experience with this? I mean I won't be spending a great deal of time in hotels, just nights since I wanna drive as much as possible & get there quicker. If I could sleep in my car with them I would lol... Which technically I could if I leave my car & take the minivan... hmmmmm nice. spacious. minivan. *thought trails off*

- At the house: My uncle (best friends dad, I call him my uncle) LOVES birds and he has a few of my old parakeets still (I can't wait to see them <3 !!), finches, love birds & cockateils. What are the chances my bird will catch some sort of avian disease from them? Like what are the odds?? I know it is always a possibility in any situation where different birds are put together but is it really at a high chance of happening????? Because if it's a concern & not like a real eminent danger I very much would like for Loqui to enjoy his time at their house in the company of other birds while I'll probably be busy cooing over the new baby. I'd also like my uncle to meet him coz I know he'll love him C:

-Last one. Are health certificates of any kind needed for car travel (Bird or dog)?? I read somewhere that entering different states they will stop you and ask for stuff but from what I remember of the road trip when I was 9 (Also NJ-FL) we were never stopped crossing any states. (I'll probably Google this one on my own later).

I know it's sort of a long read (sorry) but any thoughts/answers/ideas are appreciated C: !
