2nd parrot question

I know what i say to people, but I wanted to know other opinions so I can revise if I need to

"I have a ..... And I think she is lonely. I want to get her a friend."

I would say: make sure you don't buy a 'friend' for your bird, buy one because you want another companion to share individual, personal time with. There is every chance of jealousy and aggression between them, and that they might not get along well at all.

After giving said advice, I was told that you should always have 2+ birds because they need 24 hour attention and company. I dunno, I think that's a romantic idea but I also know Yoshi was extremely happy for 4 years before Yoda. He is independent and knows how to entertain himself for hours.

I agree with your first statement. It is also the advice i give to people wanting a friend for their lonely parrot. If people are considering a second bird thats fine if they want to share their life with another parrot, but always have a plan B in place should it not work out. Buy a second bird for the right reasons.

I agree... Buying a pet for a pet is a very bad idea...

I do say that phrase sometimes, but I would love them both equally! I just feel bad when I leave Puck alone for a few hours. I think I am projecting how I would feel in his situation, if I were left alone in a cage for several hours with no company. Lol.

Puck is a huge commitment by himself, I can only imagine adding another one!

A second bird is double the work, double the attention needed away from a persons busy schedule. Also, you have to consider jealousy. I don't mean jealousy between the two birds. I mean jealousy towards you by the two birds. Mac has no problem with me playing with Tiki. But if I handle Mac then put him down and walk over and pick up Tiki, I'm going to get bit. I don't mean that little pinch just to let me know she's not happy with me ( Ilike to call that bite the defensive bite). Her jealousy bite is aggressive, sudden without warning and very painful.

I try to remember to allow a few minutes between handling each bird, but sometimes I forget. Tiki will quickly remind me. Yesterday, she nailed me three times in the matter of two-three seconds before I could get her off my hand. She was vicious (I call those bites aggressive bites).

Oh I will also add here that all three bites yesterday drew blood.

Thanks for your input guys every situation is different, and its so good to have you guys and your parrot passion to talk to.

Of course im so lucky with Yoshi and Yoda <3 they are extremely good together, and still with me! My baby Amazon will shake things up when he arrives lol XD
