I've always used the wooden nest boxes but I was at that fish place/that pet place a little bit ago and I noticed these: Breeding Nest Box for Parakeets and Lovebirds | Nesting Supplies | Bird Cage Accessories | Bird - ThatPetPlace.com

They are made out of arylic and they are collapsible. I'm not sure how easily they come apart but they are sold in about a 2 inch thick package, so I know they must come apart. I kind of overlooked them while I was there but I went back and looked at them on their site and I kind of like the idea. It seems like they would last a lot longer, be more sanitary, and much easier to store when you're not using them. I'm considering getting a few for the budgies but I wanted to get some reviews and see if anyone has had any luck with them or if I should just stick to the old fashioned wooden boxes?

I would go for wooden boxes.. Wood is what they use in the wild...

I hear that the wooden ones provide better insulation and that they can chew on the hole opening and use the shavings on their nest and that supposed to make them happy. So I've yet to try the acrylic ones either. Let me know how they work for you if you try them, if you like them I might try them too.

I breed, Sun, Green Cheek, Black Capped and Crimson Bellied Conures. Also IRN's
I used them for my finches when i use to breed them. They r to small for anything bigger if u ask me. I would never put a parrot in them just to small! Like others said the birds like to chew on the wood boxes. I have 6 parakket nest boxes I want to sell. I used them for my lovebirds but I don't breed them anymore. let me know if u want them. $5 each. I paid more then that for them. brand new not even close to my breeders.

I would definitely be interested in getting a couple of those off of you, I need a few more and I was going to make them but after I saw that TFP/TPP sold the wooden keet boxes for only $5.99, I knew there was no way I could even make them that cheap. Unfortunately, the last 3 times I've been there they have been out of stock and all they've had were the acrylic ones.

When I used to breed, I made my own nest boxes with wood. I've seen other breeders using metal nest boxes and they were pretty successful breeding. I used heavy duty zip ties to tie them onto cages, they never chew on them as I was lucky. But I've also used hanging hooks to hook them onto a cage as well. The only pain with the zip tie is I had to clip them off after every batch to sanitize the boxes.

I use these for my Conures. They are great and so easy to sanitize plus they are not heavy like the wooden ones. A bit more pricey but will last forever.

I add a few pieces of pine wood in them for the pair to chew on and make their nest their own. Works perfect!
