I have more time on my hands lately, and I want to get involved in a parrot-oriented CAUSE. I've been Googling parrot rescues, lobbyists, advocacies... so many!

I have a background in research, community organizing, and parrot rescue. I'm getting my resume ready.

Any ideas out there? Favorite causes? Suggestions?

My 32-year-old parrot, the Rickeybird, will be my assistant!

Have a long conversation with your Avian Vet! They are a great source for what you are looking for and to a degree, their recommendations are pre-screened!

The vast majority of the groups you will be looking at are in serious need of a major upgrade to the 501 - 503 status documents and once up to date are open to grants, gifts, etc... My point here is; provide them a fish and they can eat for a day. Provide them the knowledge of how to fish and they can eat for a lifetime! So, yes it is great to go in and help for a while, but why not provide them what they truly need, a revenue stream that will allow them to not become yet another News Story!

Everyone dislikes the paperwork! Therefore, near everyone one of the groups you are thinking about will need help with the paperwork, since everyone is busy doing the fun stuff! Yes, you can still do the fun stuff, but what you will provide on the paperwork side (yes, far more then the IRS stuff) will assure that you will have an endless list of those groups calling you!

Starting with the IRS and State government stuff will help with developing their comfort level in you prior to getting them up and running on the other more personal documents (Accounting 101)!

Remember, near everyone dislikes the paperwork!

Assuming your location of "Cleveland" area is Cleveland, OH you might contact Parrot Hope Rescue and see if they need any help. They are located close to you. If they don't have any needs they might be able to point you in the right direction.

You could also check with Lara Joseph at the Animal Behaviour Center in Sylvania..she may be taking volunteers and that would be a dream job:)
I think it is a couple of hours from you, though.

Sailboat, I did just that... called my vet... he had a list of several groups in need of a pencil-pusher. I don't mind paperwork at all. I contacted the groups and they couldn't say YES fast enough. I'm sending them a resume; they'll do whatever checks they want, and I'll be in business! THANKS!

JD... I will contact them. Thank you!

Terry... that is a distance, and transportation is a problem for me. I'll keep that in my notes, though... maybe they need some paperwork done!!! Many thanks.

MANY THANKS to you all. I love this place!
