Constantly worried :(

Hello,
Does anybody else ALWAYS feel worried about their parrots health?
I just scheduled my parrot an appointment for tomorrow because I feel like he is sleeping during the day more than usual. We recently have been staying at my moms place and he has been doing it since we have arrived. He sleeps the same amount at night but during the day seems to be sleeping more. His weight hasn't changed his poop is normal, and he otherwise looks fine. It's like I know he is fine but in the back of my mind there's this "but what if he's not". He had the same behavior last time we stayed at my moms so I wonder if it's just his adjusting to the new environment.
I have brought him to the vet three times this year and nothing has been wrong w him any of those times (this will be the fourth). I feel very guilty because one of those times they have drawn blood.
I know I get more nervous w my parrot because everyone says they are masters of hiding illness, but when does it become ridiculous.
What would you all do?
Thank you

I think we know our birds best, and it is better to be safe than sorry. If there really is something wrong, they can go downhill so fast. How long have you had him?
The extreme worry usually will wear off some the longer you have him, and the better you know him.
Please let us know how he is doing:)

It is good that you've scheduled an appointment. It can offer reassurance and comfort. As long as I've had Baby, he's actually been a very hardy bird and we've also had a few minor accidents but we both got through it. I worry about aging more than anything, especially with the books have projected a set age that the birds are nearing.

Thank you for the responses. I do feel like the appointment will at least reassure me that he's fine and if there is something going on then we will find out. I know it's normal to worry about the ones you love, but don't want to overdue it either. I have had my parrot for about 4 years now.

I know what you mean about aging I have a couple of 14yr old chihuahuas and I feel the same way! I try not to think about it but when I do I just want to stop time.

Hi, you say you are at your mum's but didn't indicate if you had a long journey? This can have an effect and I find that if it is warm Plum will sleep more. Would love to know your bird's name Tro and where you are located?

Good to know you have scheduled an appointment to be sure.

you know your bird best. Observe. A change in poops, sleeping pattern, general behavior, food intake or weight would mean a visit to the avian vet. Otherwise an annual checķup. That's what I've done in the past and what I'll do with Salty. Otherwise all your doing is putting the vets kids thru college .

my parrots name is Tak we live in Washington and fly to Alaska often to visit my family. We have been at my moms for a few weeks so far.

I took him to his appointment and the vet did a thorough exam and thinks he is just fine... He mentioned that Tak is not around little kids back at home and my mom has 5 grandkids running around her house all day and that could be making him tired which makes sense because all those kids are enough to tire anyone out! I hadn't thought about that before I took him in, because he likes being around adults so I just didn't realize. But I'm glad I took him in because now I know. Thanks for the responses

Yes it could be the children are making Tak tired as he is probably more alert than is his normal routine. They get to know and rest accordingly in their home environment. Perhaps give him some rest time by putting him in a quiet, children free room for some time during the day. I have observed that many birds are quite nervy around children, how is Tak doing? If it is stressful then he may need a room of his own full time. He may not be sleeping as well as at home during the night due to unfamiliar noises in the house. Sleep is important to birds and this could be making him appear a little off.

Last night Tak was acting worse than before... I called his vet first thing this morning the vet had me bring Tak in so that he could observe him for a few hours. I got a call about an hour ago from the vet that he is putting Tak in an incubator and wants Tak to stay the night and will be doing some in house blood wrk on him as well as more x-rays w a dye if needed. I'm so scared right now I can't be w out my precious boy.
