Hi all well pheonix is just starting to fly now and yesterday he flew onto mikkis playstand and instantly started eating the seeds in mikkis bowl

I have never given him seeds and have Bern trying to encourage him to eat his pellets ( kaytees rainbow ) but have had little luck
I have tried them wet with fruit juice
wet with warm water
soft but cooled
hard ( straight from packet )
and also sprinkled over his fruit and vege mix
he simply won't touch them
I don't want to get a different brand yet as I still have 3/4 of this bag left and it was very expensive

What can I do to encourage him to eat it more

He loves the seeds so much I've had to remove them as he gets out of his cage and flies straight to mikkis stand and starts going to town on them

It must be the smell or something that kicks off their natural instinct about them as I have never seen him react like this to any food before

Would you suggest mixing just a fee seeds into a bowl of pellets try get him interested or what ?

Any suggestions please ????

I can't clip him yet as he's not fully flighted and still learning

I mixed seeds with pellets to get my birds to go for them and then slowly decreased the ratio. You reach a point where the bird gives up the resistance to the pellet. That said, some birds simply will not eat them...any brand. Then you really have to up your efforts to get fruit and vegetables in them!

Thanks barb
he's started perching alot more now and I wonder if I need to move his bowls up higher
will give this a try and see what results I get orelse I may try what you have suggested

He gets plenty of fruit and vege and eats s decent amount of it along with some nuts etc to so I'm not worried about that
but I'd rather stay away from seeds if possible

Just worried he is getting all vitamins etc that a growing baby needs
