Hi! Good morning! =)

Yes, i need your knowledge/help for (excuse me in advance for the long post):

I'm trying to figured out how to move DEFINITEVELY from Europe to Arizona my little sweet Dennis (Senegal Parrot).

I've been googleing all around websites, requests, forms, permissions, procedures.... and I'm getting a bit descouraged seen all the paperworks i must get done. (CITIES, wildlife & fish, agricolture department, import export exotic animals, Etc etc)

What is scaring me most is not the ammount of the work i have to do (because i would even bring him swimming myself in the ocean save and dry on top of my head) but the fact if i don't do it PROPERLY and i get a refusal, then i cannot ask again.

I've sent tons of email to everybody vets, offices, petrelocators, animal shops, for asking assistence during this process but they just give me other websites to check and then i see some contraddictions or not complete informations with what i kind of know already. So in few words I'm getting even more crazy trying to put together this matrix of info...

I have all the ESA documents eventually to let him travel with me in the cabin of the flight (of course i take in consideration EVERYTHING travel with a boat, private flight, teleport, evertyhing I'm not kidding) but I'm also considering a petrelocator as i wrote: i cannot take the chance something goes wrong during the requesting procedures and get a refusal from the offices.
Then i rather to be apart from him for a while if i know that is worthed.

I'm leaving Europe not for holidays but to start a new life and close definitevely this (not so happy) chapter of life I've exeperienced in Amsterdam.

Now my question is: is there anybody that had already this experience: moving one way from Europe to America with a little friend?
Or i don't know, maybe an official assistance person that can follow me step by step, documents by documents, CORRECTLY and PROPERLY done? (no prob to pay fees for time and effort)

I have open mind for ALL KIND of solution.

Sorry again for the long message and thank you for reading it.

Wish to everybody a lovely day

Erika & Dennis:gcc:

I've never done a move such as this before (though I will never rule it out), maybe try getting a hold of the congressmen who runs Arizona to see if they can point you in the right direction.

Failing that getting in touch with the people who run the checks might be an idea? Or even contacting the airport you'll be flying to if you haven't already. I'm sure others who know better will be either typing away or due to come on soon

Yeah, as above I would contact the people who will be allowing Dennis into the country. I guess this will be Border Control or the animal section of this. If they tell you what they need it would be a good place to start.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Thanks for considering every aspect of your move! You definitely want to cover every agency's rules and concerns. There are a number of U.S. federal and some state (Arizona) agencies that have a role in the importation of parrots. I'd assume the Netherlands may also have export considerations.

Some of these links may be helpful.
Federal:
https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/birds.html
https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ou...port-live-animals/sa_avian/ct_return_pet_bird
(Thankfully the Netherlands is *not* on the excluded list)
https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2016-Aug/pets-wildlife-unitedstates.pdf

State of Arizona:
https://agriculture.az.gov/animals/...ion-requirements/importing-domesticated-birds

This is by no means a comprehensive list! A U.S. embassy or consulate may give guidance, perhaps a comprehensive list of agencies to contact.

Welcome.

I would contact the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) first. I'm pretty certain they are who handles animal importation and their agents should be able to answer your questions regarding importing a pet bird, what documentation you'll need etc...

Just a heads up- tomorrow is a holiday in the US and most government agencies (as well as many private businesses like vets offices) will be closed until Monday.

Information Basics:

You:
- Are your older than 18 years?
- Do you have a valid USA Pass Port?
- If yes, what was your 'stated reason' for being in the Netherlands: Vacation, School, Business, etc...
- How long have you been in the Netherlands?
- If you traveled outside of the Netherlands, you will need a list of Countries visited, when, how long and why for each.

The Parrot:
- Did you purchase the Parrot in the Netherlands?
- Do you have the purchase and birth Documents? (CITES required ownership documents)
- Have you been to a Certified Avian Vet in the Netherlands with you Parrot? You will need 'Health Statement' from and signed by the CAV, dated for your departure and arrival time period.
- For what reason did you purchase a Parrot?

Statement:
As an Adult with a valid USA Pass Port, who has traveled from the USA and has been 'living' in a specific Country in the EU for an 'extended' period of time and had so claimed that upon entry to that Country. That person has 'rights' to return to the USA with property. That Adult can obtain and return to the USA with a Pet, assuming that it have been property of the USA Citizen for an extended period of time. That 'length of time' is very important (at least several months). The shorter the the period of time, the more difficult it will be to return to the USA with a Pet.

Airline Documents - You must obtain and fully comply with the requirements of the Airline that you will be travel on. Transfer between airlines becomes very difficult! Avoid at all costs, unless documents for all airlines are part of your document pack.

The Airlines are your best source for the required documents for exiting one Country and entering another. This based on their not wanting to be stuck with a live animal caught in their system between Countries.

I or no one as part of Parrot Forums need to know the above information! But, it will define whether you will be allowed to return to the USA with a Pet.

Information Basics:

You:
- Are your older than 18 years? yes i'm 37
- Do you have a valid USA Pass Port? i have an european passport because i'm italian - just got the ESTA document for holiday in USA (valid for three years) for the begin - i'm working on my Visa permit for the job - by absurd i got the job already since i'm working for an American company and i should be transfered still waiting for some answers about documents needed (burocracy is my curse apparently :/ )
- If yes, what was your 'stated reason' for being in the Netherlands: Vacation, School, Business, etc... I moved from Italy to Amsterdam 6 years ago for work

- If you traveled outside of the Netherlands, you will need a list of Countries visited, when, how long and why for each. i went 3/4 to Italy to visit my family during this 6 years and tha's all

The Parrot:
- Did you purchase the Parrot in the Netherlands?I didn't purchase him, i saved him from the previous owners and from being caged all the time and no human contatcs. They purchased him 37 years ago and of course they don't have any invoice of evidence (so i don't know if has been taken from the wild or breeded somewhere)
- Do you have the purchase and birth Documents? (CITES required ownership documents) I have the passport and as date of birth in agreement with the vet we decided to put the same as mine 6 november 1980 - no purchase documents
- Have you been to a Certified Avian Vet in the Netherlands with you Parrot? You will need 'Health Statement' from and signed by the CAV, dated for your departure and arrival time period.i've been in this animal klinik in amsterdam
https://www.dierenkliniekijburglaan.nl/vogel-1
"Carreen Loriaux has been working as a bird doctor for many years and is affiliated with both the Association of Avian Veterinarians (international bird doctor / bird specialist association) and the Special Animals Working Group of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University."

- For what reason did you purchase a Parrot?I didn't purchase him i just got him because i couldn't stand to see him anymore (the previous owners were the parents of my ex boyfriend and they just gave him to me,
they couldn't believe they could get rid off him so easily because they didn't love him at all.)
After Dennis saved me during this 3 years and he's doing it still now.
I m suffering a bit of a post traumatic stress disorder caused by my ex boyfriend and i ve been involved several times as life saver in his severe suicidal tendencies. If I get the flashbacks (the suddenly ones) of what happened the most important is that I am with my little angel and everything goes away quickly because i just focus on our love that is amazing. I can rationally talk and write about what happened but some flashbacks they just come suddenly and out of the blue. That's the reason why he is my Emotional support animal ((DSM version 5 chapter 309.81 - post traumatic stress disorder) as explained in the documents

this, unfortunately is not my case, i would love to be American, but I am not...

ok this is really good to know

No problem for me to tell my story, sorry if i have been super detailed, but i've seen in life the most important things are the little details and having an idea of the all situations can be helpfull in order to take the right paths and avoid to loose time in maybe unnecessary things.

Thank you so much for your time and your answer - wish u a lovely day

Thank you, for the good wishes!

Sadly, to bring property with you, you will need to have documents from your 'Employer' in the USA, proving you have a job waiting for you. That document has to be approved by the US Government. At that point you will be issue a Work VISA. Your employer should be very helpful in making this all happen on the USA side. Contact your Employer and work with them to complete documentation!

Do Not Come To The USA and begin working until you have a Work Visa!!!

I am sorry to say, that until you have a US Work Permit, you will not be allowed to bring your Pet with you.

I hear you. Crossing borders with birds seems to be way more complicated than other animals. I think the suggestions you have are great and I would love to know how it works out for you.

Thank you for the support! i got in contact with her on facebook, she's a lovely person and she's sharing with me what she had to do.

In few hours I'll have a phone call appointment with a lady from this office
https://www.rvo.nl/ - it's the dutch version of the wildlife & fish Usa dep.
And they told me they can give me assistance for the documents in order to avoid mistakes. - And i can also check what about #sailboat# wrote previously.
About the fact I'm not American so with restriction for me i really didn't know or taken in consideration (Burocracy?? argh! Bring it on!!!). Eventually i can try to arrange it with my boyfriend that is American from Phoenix.
Ps.
The pet relocator asked 10.000$...
o_O
My God! That's good for the Rockfeller family...

here another guy had something similar to do:

from Uk to America!

How to Import Pet Birds Into the U.S.A. ? the Complete Saga.

<3 - quote from this blog:
"Luckily, my birds were both CITES II, which is relatively more relaxed in terms of requirements (on both sides). It is said to be much, much more difficult to import CITES I birds."

Reading various stories, good/bad, is a great way to complete the picture.

Most importantly, get as much guidance from official sources as possible. They hold the key to a successful importation without stress!
