Is he actually eating?

Today I fed Sam some red peppers. I notice, however, that when he "eats" them, he simply tears off a piece, chews a moment, then shakes it away. Is he just having fun tearing off pieces, or is he just licking the juices? Thanks+!

The Rb first guts a pepper for the seeds. Then, in a more leisurely way, he takes bites, chews them for the juice, which he swallows, then tosses the peel and what's left of the pulp... maybe Sam is doing somethig like that?

Bumble doesn’t even chew first. She flings. I’m sure she’s having great fun. She eats the seeds when she gets there, and sometimes she’ll go back to the now bite-sized pieces for a little nosh.

Yeah! And hey... a little vitamin-rich sap has to sneak into those busy beaks, right?

I've asked myself the same thing when I share certain fruits and veggies, I think maybe a quarter of what clark takes he actually eats, some does disappear, but I think the mess you showed is pretty common.

So that’s how you serve them peppers. Hmmmm ...
I give Levi slices & he never eats them.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Looks like typical messy parrot eating! They almost never consume 100% of what is offered, preferring to pick a bit here and there, toss a bunch, but in the act they do swallow significant nutrients.

At least peppers don't stain like pomegranates! Another great fruit is whole cranberry, now in season. Mine love to break them in pieces and eat the tiny seeds.

Hehe. When I first had parrots, I wondered if they were eating. But then, they kept pooing and being active so I figured something was getting in there.
