I recently bought a sun conure from a breeder. It's honeymoon period is over by now. It's 8 months old. I call it Habibi ❤️. I always notice its head bobbing as well as its head puffed up always. I hear people saying if a conure is puffed up then it's sick! But it's really super energetic n flies all over d house , listens to my command of coming to me. It also eats normally like sprouts , all fruits , peas and at times carrot.
Pls tell me why is the head puffed up always!?
I'm a newbie btw.

Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
Puffed up OFTEN means happy relaxed contented. It CAN mean the bird is cold or ill. Some pics might help.

Hi Clarin, here is a link that may help you......

http://www.parrotforums.com/technical-support/6287-how-post-pictures.html

Alternatively, you should be able to post a thumbnail pic along with your post. Click the "go advanced" button underneath the text box, then click the paper clip icon. You will then get the "choose file" button, so then click the "upload" button on the right, close out of that box and post. The picture should show as a thumbnail under your text. (Instructions courtesy of Laurasea.)

Honestly though, many of us load photos either via Facebook or a free account on Imgur and link them from there.

Hope this helps! :)

Symptoms of sickness in parrots have to be considered in context. Some are real signs of problems though. A parrot that is not eating. Losing weight. Sleeping all the time. Inability to perch. Vomiting. Discharge from nostrils (nares) or eyes. Excessively watery poops (but keep in mind parrot poops change a lot with changes in diet). Wet feathers around the vent (cloaca ). Any of these by themselves merit a visit to a certified avian vet.

But other symptoms can be explained by other than sickness. Fluffed up - could be happy and just resting. But fluffed up and sleeping all the time - thats cause for concern. Perching on one foot - parrots often do this but if done with also inablilty to perch, thats a cause for concern. Watery poops - if your parrot has been eating a lot of water based foods like lettuce or fruits, the their poops will be watery, but if he eats pellets, nuts and seeds and his poops are watery, thats a concern.

The best thing you can do is to know your parrot really well, his eating habbits, normal poops and his normal weight ( by using a digital kitchen scale), and monitor these a few times a week. That way you will know when something changes.
