So, I know that the application seems daunting, and I must admit it took a few hours to complete but don't let it dissuade you. I (apparently have lost all reason) put in an application last Saturday, so far the rescue has been super nice. Tomorrow I go to meet the potential new fid. I definitely recommend this rescue, they seem to really care about the welfare of the birds. We'll see how it goes :white1:

I hope you do better with them than i did. i joined their forum and tried my best to participate. Zero response from admin. I donated at a bird show and feel , ripped off. I hope they are doing some good and I'm the exception. I'm sure i could have helped them out and would love to have. However, was never given the chance . Loads of birds down here who could use a helping hand. Do they charge a rehoming fee ? Is there something i'm missing? I know very little about them, just my dealings with them. I hope you have something positive, and good is being done.

Hmmm, well i didnt join their forum, i saw they had one but i honestly barely have time for this one, :11: so i havent looked at theirs. Theres been an M2 there that i've been keeping an eye in for over a year now, we finally decided put in an app. The adoption process has been really smooth. They all do have adoption fees, but i think that they are resonable. If you go to the site, birds are priced by size. Their smaller birds are really reasonable.

I know what you mean Richard, I emailed them, no response, I called them and left a message, no response. I also joined their forum as well, again no response. I gave up. I was more interested in fostering. Yes, they do charge a fee, which I think is a little steep. Also, they don't update their website very often from what I hear and when you check the status of a bird on their site, they respond that the bird has been adopted. I think they leave the pictures of specific birds on their site as a way to pull at your heart strings. They have several pictures of birds that have been posted on their site for at least two years. I would be almost willing to bet they have long been adopted.

I don't want to knock any rescue group but i'm disappointed with them.I'm sure they're over worked, very busy and hurting for money. Like you Mike, i wanted to help but get zero response. I see them at bird shows/fairs and they talk a good line. Honestly i can't recommend them. Maybe if you were standing there with a handful of C=notes you'd get a better response.

And yes, their application is more than a bit rediculous. Half way through, I thought they were asking for a kidney. To me, this is what happens when good intentions goes a bit too far.

I couldn't believe they asked what you thought would happen in five years.....I can't honestly say I know what I'm doing tomorrow. No matter what you say on those questions it's going to be a lie. The dumbest application I have ever seen.

I've heard the SAME story soooooooo many times. I volunteer with another (Florida) Bird Rescue: M.A.R.S (Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary in Melbourne Beach). We sometimes get confused with "Florida Parrot Rescue" because on facebook our page is called "Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. The owner of "Florida Parrot Rescue" also posts photos and notices of our birds when they get adopted....and I don't think it is because she is happy for us. Most people think the adoptions were hers...anyway....

I promise you that your experience with us will not be that way. Please do not let a bad experience sour you. Our application is simple and straightforward with questions you would EXPECT to see like: Who is your vet? How many people in the household, how many pets, your experience with birds, etc....

You can find us at Florida Parrot Rescue, Parrot Care & Sanctuary - M.A.R.S. or on facebook http://http://www.facebook.com/marsparrots
