The majoirty of the time I'm on my phone when I visit and it is hard to get the pages to load. They aren't just slow, they freeze and don't budge. I was wondering if you would consider adding a mobile option? I'm sure more than just myself would benefit.

I'd be all for it. Unfortunately we use a third party forum software ... which I actually rather dread. It's very hard to do much of anything with it, and as far as I know there are no plans to add any mobile functionality.

You could send a message to 4Nines ("real" administrator) and he could pass on the request to the people who maintain the forum software ... but don't expect anything soon.

Alternately, when I get some free time (also not necessarily any time soon) I may be able to tinker around and create a mobile interface 'middle man' on my site. It could parse the website data and present a simpler cleaner version, then relay any posts made on the mobile interface back to the main forum. However this also would require permission from the powers-that-be and I doubt they'd okay it: there are advertisers who pay to have their adds show up here; if I parsed out all those ads I don't think they'd be happy.

So long story short: I don't think we'll have opportunities for this any time soon.

Just found an easy way ... well, relatively easy that is.

The forums work fine with the Lynx linux console browser. Depending on your mobile phone this may not help - if you have an Android or some other linux based device that should do it. But if not there is another way: if you have a computer with an 'always on' connection you just need to set up a secure shell over http - luckily Ajaxterm will do this for you (Index of /software/ajaxterm). Looks like you'll need to set up Apache for remote access - there are plenty of tutorials on this (google it). Then enter your computer's IP address into your phones browser address bar along with the appropriate port number, start lynx, and get over to parrotforums.com.

Yes I'm a geek .... so much so that I think I'm going to have to try this out, even though the full site loads nicely on my phone.

All of that
over
my head

:p lol! I don't know how the software stuff works, just know that a couple other forums that use vB have the mobile option as a "theme". Though I am sure it is way more complicated than that!

I have an android, I don't know why it does what it does. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it just won't load at all. It might be the browser, I can try another one. Though admittedly I know nothing about programs and how they work.

Oops, I guess that one requires the forum to sign up with taptalk.

But there's a request you can send to 4Nines. According to the site it takes "10 minutes" and is free - so it seems like a good idea.

I'm going to test out other browsers as well. I'm currently using Dolphin.
