My Congo Grey is really sick. I live in Pakistan, and the so-called 'avian' vets here don't know jack squat. No way to analyze a blood sample apparently.
This started about 2 years ago. He lost feathers on his neck. I haven't seen him pluck his feathers, but my parents claim to have (he's not mine, but my mom's, who is the primary caretaker). My mom left the country for 2 months (while the bird was with my dad), and I'm guessing that triggered the process. And then after that, for another 3 months a year later. And then me, and the rest of my siblings moved out, so the house is empty with the exception of my parents. Anyway, I came back after 4-5 months this April and it's really bad now. He's lost most of the feathers from the lower part of his neck, and the bone in his chest is quite visible.
He's been sitting at the bottom of his cage in a corner, sometimes with his eyes closed. He's been doing this for a while, but the 'vets' don't have any idea why. Their prognosis usually is that his diet isn't good, or he has worms, and a multitude of other factors. A vet told my mom to rub some kind of concoction on his feathers to stop him from plucking. That made the plucking worse, and exacerbated his depressive state. Today I saw him breathing quite deeply. Something is seriously wrong, and I don't really know who to turn to. I was thinking that maybe I can take him across the border somehow where they have more competent doctors. Anything to save the bird, I guess.
