I'm so sick at heart!!!!I didn't notice sooner. And they ate them I know cuz theyove safflower seeds :( :( :( :( :( Ta-dah tail bob is very subtle, only when sleeping. But I'm still going to try and get in the morning instead of afternoon if they will let me, it was all they had open....

I know exactly how you feel. They depend on us for everything and there's nothing worse than to feel that somehow you've let them down, even if you didn't know it! But it may be something else entirely too, so yes keep trying to get them in early if you can. ScoMo is with me preening my hair (yair thanks!) and sends you his love too :smile015:

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
Whoops!

I know the feeling - when I rescued/rehomed D. (my second grey) the ex-owners (because I asked) gave me the last of her food to take with:
it was the cheapest, low grade chikenfeed available and it was actually moving!
(yup, small bugs etc.)
No wonder she stole the dry catfood in that house!

It was my first meeting with the CAV here (they always ask you to bring a sample of the food the parrots eat with you), and we both almost cried!

So..take some of the food with you..not to do the walk of shame, but it's easier for the CAV to asses the possible damage.

Best wishes!

Remember folks, this can happen with any high-quality food, or even the cheaper food! Whenever you open the container before you pour it in for your fid, take a smell of the bottle. If it smells like old oil? Throw it away, it is rancid!
And remember, the higher the quality of food, the more prone it is to spoilage! Less preservatives!
If there are peanuts in your mix, be very careful!
The freezer is your best friend to avoid this!

Did you check the date on the bag? Usually this is due to the store/company who sold the food not paying attention to the dates, or as Scott mentioned, the bag is accidentally not sealed-up completely and then they become moldy...I'd take a look at the date on the bag, and if it's expired I'd take it back to the store or call the place you ordered it from and let them know...

Hopefully your bird's will be okay, usually their GI Tracts can handle a little mold/fungi...Have their droppings been normal?

So I just back from vets it's a long drive for me. And a new vet as my previous one moved out of state. I. Not happy at all with how things went. Vet looked at moldy seeds said don't feed them, duh...I asked what should I be concerned with she said no idea...what about Aspergillosis?!?! Neptune she said normal maybe a tad thin, ideas to why none!!!!???? He eats great like a trucker...so I want to know why thin! Ta-dah tail bob, just watch it let her know if it gets worse?!? Wtf? I asked for gramstains they were normal, we did swabs for cultures...so I guess we will see. I spent a lot of money....for what just watch???? Never is a tail bob normal... On the car ride home Ta-dah threw up several times ( she had never done this before) called vet from car told she is just car sick...when we got home Ta-dah is breathing hard very noticeable tail bobbing.... Neptune is fine. I don't know bwhat to do????

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
Are you sure that they aren't normally like that?
Mine look that way too (not quite as dark, but some darker areas+ non-expired; one sealed bag, one opened bag) and my bird just had a gram-stain etc (all is well).
I could be wrong, but I wonder if that isn't just the way they look...?

Vomiting may be anxiety due to the long car ride & stress, my Baci used to have panic attacks and vomit on the way to the vet and ours is only 5 mins drive away. But youā€™re right, tail bobbing is never a good thing! And I certainly donā€™t like the sound of the vetā€™s attitude either, maybe itā€™s time to find a new one if at all possible!

Iā€™m very sorry you seem to have been left with even more worry than before!

I would try a different vet--Even if it isn't the seeds, he/she sounds dismissive.

Thank you all for supporting me. I am Way more worried, Becca before o thought slight tail bob but after all the stress if vet visit and car ride when we got home she had obvious distress and marked tail bobbing... Ta-dah smells yeasty..vet noticed this as well and prescribed dilute chlorhexidine spray . Vet had no idea why I clean her water bowl at least five times a day because she makes soup, I clean cage daily, and new newspaper daily or twice daily...I will call back tomorrow and explain my concerns, find out when cultures will be back and see, and I will call my old vet and see what they say........

Hopefully your old vet will call your new vet and give them a bloody good talking to about their lousy attitude!!!
