You guys, I am in love with these photos at OMSI with my very handsome and photogenic boy this morning I even oiled his beak (coconut oil) so he would look his best lol. Kiwi is a very textbook a.xanthopteryx in coloration and this backdrop is his species to a “T”. I am so glad I got to do this with him today because my baby is literally due any time. Even though I don’t necessarily look 9 months pregnant, I am and I’m not sure how many more days I’d be up to doing this. The universe was working in our favor!
We went in before hours so there wasn’t people everywhere. Kiwi was a very good boy and while a little nervous at first to exit his POB inside the museum, he eventually got comfortable and we got some great shots. I’m not sure anyone else on here lives in or will be visiting Portland, but if you do, I’d definitely suggest seeing this exhibit if you can! It is AMAZING. The exhibit is called “Exquisite Creatures” and the work of Christopher Marley. It’s beautifully and artistically preserved specimens of animals that died of natural causes and insects. It’s also only up until February. ***They don’t generally allow pets in FYI, this was a special arrangement, so definitely not recommended to bring your bird along if you do go***
Some fun ones:
Getting his hugs n kisses:
And saving perhaps the best for last- the open wing shots, which came out surprisingly good for being taken on an iPhone and not a professional camera! Kiwi does not just open his wings on command (I wish!). I was getting him to do a downward flap to get the wings open:
