I tried to congratulate dskidd on the announcement thread but the forum snarled at me and threatened something about disabling my account... :56:

Anyway - Congrats, Dskidd!!! :respect:

BAHAHAHAHAH!!!! I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh, but your description is hilarious. Only Admins and Mods can post in the Announcement section. ;) That's why I left this thread open. :)

Thank you so much. Interesting: Eliza snarls at me and threatens to disable my account whenever I try to get her off the keyboard. I had no idea she was an admin here! :D

Again, thank you for the kind words!
Derek (and Eliza and Henry, of course!)

Thank you for the kind words! I'm not going to tell Eliza about your comment on how cute and adorable she looks. It'll ruin her reputation... ;)

And, while I'm at it, thank you to everyone who voted: not just for E&H, but for ALL the great photos! They were all fabulous!

A very happy and healthy New Year to all!
Derek, Eliza and Henry

I'm not going to tell Eliza
Great name! My cat is called Eliza. When you tell her how cute and sweet she looks in the photo, tell her she's got a kindred spirit on the other side of the world...

I will definitely let her know! And a couple of your birds reminds me of my first visit to Australia, many years ago (sadly, not Perth--I was on the other side of the continent, near Melbourne).

Some time before that visit, I had heard a song which referenced galahs. The way the line in the song was phrased, I was convinced galahs were a type of indigenous Australian flower.

My friends were driving me around, and I saw a flock of absolutely stunning-looking birds in a field. I excitedly pointed out the window and asked "Wow...what are THOSE? They're amazing!"

"Those are galahs, Derek."

"No, no, no...I meant what kind of birds are those?!"

"Er..."

To think of the embarrassment I could I have saved myself from if I could have quickly looked up "galahs" on the internet back then!

:D Good one. There's another aussie slang meaning of "galah" which you can look up. "ya flamin' galah!"

Gosh, I learn so much here on ParrotForums! Thanks!

I think I'll try saying "Ya flaming' galah!" to Eliza.

Depending on how she reacts, this could be my farewell message here...
;)
