Dragon - my Blue and gold buddy of 42 years
My B&G macaw has been with me for over 40 years. He has a recurring problem with bird poop sticking to the tiny feathers around his bird bottom, and it eventually hardens into a very hard ball that seems to bother him very much. I try to pick some of it off, but he’s spooked if I approach him with any kind of cutting instrument. A vet has removed it twice with three people needing to hold him. Is this common? He is spoiled and begs for my food, especially cheese, pizza, and spaghetti (which I call worms). Can anyone give me advice?

Parrots on a healthy diet should not have this problem. No offence, but cheese, pizza and spagetti and most other yummy people food (unless in minute and rare amounts) are not good for them. Likely you already know this. I give my Salty a piece of pizza crust, like 1/2 a penny size or less, like every 2 weeks. You really are not doing him a service by giving him those foods.

SHooting his butt area with warm water might trigger him to preen the area.
