Is it just mine, or are all Alexes the most awful food thieves?
Yesterday, I had the Beakies out in the kitchen as usual. They had been doing their usual laps of the hallway, had their bath, been blow-dried and were parked, as usual, on their playgym where they preen for a few minutes before catching a nap.
Since they were so nicely settled and I was feeling a tad peckish, I decided to make myself a health-giving cheese and chutney sanger (that's Australian for 'sandwich'). I took bread, marge, cheese and chutney from the fridge and immediately wore a shrieking green hat for my trouble. Both Beakies know perfectly well that many wonderful food items live in the strange, cold, white room. I might have known the green hat would descend as soon as I attempted to open it!
LOL! So, I continued making my sanger. By the time the bread was buttered, there was no crust left: greedy Beakies had seized it and wrestled it away from the bread! By the time the chutney was on, there were perforations in the bread! By the time the cheese was on, I was actually wrestling for possession of my sandwich with first Madge and then Barney. They worked like a tag team to get that darned sanger out of my hands and into their beaks!
At one point, I was shooshing Barney away from the sanger in one direction when Madge actually descended on it from behind me and tried to make off with it in her talons! I had had only a few bites, but after Madgie had done her little dance on my food with her birdie feets, suddenly I didn't want the sanger any more. Roxanne (the dog) got it.
It is honestly impossible to consume any kind of food or beverage when the Beaks are at large. They go into a feeding frenzy and will stop at absolutely nothing in their efforts to get a piece of the tucker for themselves. So, is it just me or do everyone's Alexes do the same thing???
