So I am looking into getting a GCC within the next couple of months. I am looking for a breeder in PA or NJ, if anyone knows of any I would really appreciate it. Looking online I have found a few different breeders fairly close by, but also want some feedback from others that have experience with a breeder. So, anyone have any breeders that they can recommend?

You should consider adopting instead of buying a baby from a breeder. A plus side to that is you might get the bird after he/she goes the maturity so his/her evil fase will be over and you wont have to worry about if you can train it correctly or not.

This is off topic but, is it better? I see some people with 1-3 year old conures but I wasnt sure if it would be as easy to get an adult.

Raising a baby conure (one that is weaned) is like having a newborn baby....they are totally dependent on you for food, water, attention and a big emphasis on attention. When I got Forrest he was about 9 weeks old, the minute he heard me in the morning he wanted on my shoulder and was miserable climbing and hanging upside down in the cage with his feet out behind his back ( yes literally inside out) ... I couldn't get anything done until my granddaughter came over to give me a break. Honestly just like a new born. That went on for several months, then they go through a lot of phases. I just got a Sun Conure 2 weeks ago...he is 1 1/2 yrs old. Well behaved and even entertains himself. It is easy to make mistakes with how we raise them as youngsters, Forrest took forever to learn to entertain himself because I spoiled him rotten. So don't shy away from an older bird, just visit and spend a little time with them and let THEM pick you. Those are the best relationships, especially with the older ones.

I agree, I would totally look at the 1 to 3 year old birds. It's funny but baby birds after a very short time do not look like babies, they are usually the same size as adults and lose their baby feathers pretty quickly anyway and most of that time they are still at the breeders. I got a baby and at 5 weeks he was a ball of fluff and a lovey, dovey baby. 3 weeks later he was weaned, went to pick them up and they look like almost full adults and were in the "nippy" baby stage. So much for my cuddly, little baby fluff ball lol

I also agree that if it is a good if they pick you House totally picked me(what can I say, I like the bad boys, lol) and I took his brother too because I wanted him to have company. House is closer to me because he picked me, we had an instant spark and he is much more bonded to be than Wilson.

I think there are lots of 1 to 3 year old GCCs looking for home because first they are easy to find in most pet stores, the are impulse buys and by 1 year old the novelty is wearing off. So lots of good, sweet birds out there. I will definately be open to an older bird next time I'm looking.

Thank you all for your opinions. I totally understand about them needing a ton of attention when they are younger. I have hand raised many different animals over the years. Including having to wake every two hours to feed newborn kittens. I honestly don't care if the bird is a baby still or a few years old. I know there are ups and downs to both.

Well if you don't care if you get one that's a few years old, all the more reason the rescue/adopt.

Craigslist is a good place to check for GCC's needing a new home if you aren't near any rescues.

In NJ, I really like Birds by Joe in Middlesex, NJ and Fancy Feathers Aviary in West Caldwell.

Those 2 always have bappies! Also, the Paterson Bird Store in Totowa has a good selection of parrots, too. I know the Paterson store has many gcc but they looked a little older than a bappy. They were not in a tank with other bappies.
