Hi, I'm Jennifer. I joined a while back, but I don't think I ever posted before today. Got an email recently to come check out the boards, so here I am.
I've been owned by parrots for about 10 years now. I had a 9 year old green Quaker, Poco, who was handicapped (gout in one leg) that was the apple of my eye. Yes, she was evil to everyone but me, but was still the sweetest thing. I bought her while going to college in 1999 and she lost her life back in August 2008. I still miss her.
I now have a blue Quaker, Bailey, who has two working legs and is quite a bit louder. I love her to death, but WOW the noise. She's super friendly and loves everyone, though. I'm hoping if I keep her exposed to different things, she'll stay that way. She loves to give kisses and is determined to be involved in anything we're doing around the house. I give into her whims, as long as it's safe. Bailey was born in mid-summer of 2008, and was still handfeeding when I brought her (or him?) home. She's quite the bully; she bosses my Red-Belly Poi around often. Or she used to.
I also have (obviously) a Red-Belly Poicephalus. She's female, so has the understated coloring of that species. She was hatched on March 28th, 2008, so she is just over a year old. She was quite timid when we first brought her home back in September. Very afraid of hands and always fluttering away. Now she's fully flighted (but still mastering the art of maneuvering) and flies to me often. In fact, I have to leave her in the cage sometimes, just to get a moments peace. She does a lot of beeping at me and fluffing and acting like she wants to vomit on me (you know, the sign of looooove). She's no longer scared of my hands and I can touch her anywhere on her body with minimal effort; and I've taught her to spread her wings out when I say "show me your wings!" She has such a gorgeous underside to her wings. However, she only tolerates the SO because he lets her out of the cage.
We also have two dogs and a cat. It's a busy household!
Glad to be here, hopefully the board becomes more active.
