Yes it gets more complicated when people use nicknames and then even more so when we cross languages!

“Lacewing” names different mutations in different species and really annoys me lol.

Pallid is one mutation, cinnamon lutino would be a combination of two completely different mutations. I actually have a cinnamon albino aka cinnamon whiteface lutino aka cinnamon blue lutino cockatiel! She just looks like a white bird who took a dust bath [emoji23]

Nope; I think that’s what it means in budgies but in Ringnecks lacewing means “pallid” and while it is sex linked, it is not at all the same as cinnamon or lutino

I'll try to explain it better what I mean:

I know this isn't the same and meant that the name "lacewing" can be understood as this or this. I know this is so confusing and the same is written in an article on Polish forum (I translated a fragment):

Combination of cinnamon and lutino is cinnamon lutino but the right name is lacewing (don't confuse with pallid mutation). So the real lacewing is lutino with cinnamon "shadows".


Like I had written - I'm writing how it looks on Polish side, I know you are IRN expert and you know better - if you write lacewing isn't cinnamon lutino, this combination is called just "cinnamon lutino"? From what I know the name "lacewing" is used for cinnamon lutino in diferent species, not only budgies but also eg. quacker parrots

Yes, in Ringnecks it is just called a cinnamon lutino, because “lacewing” is used exclusively for the pallid mutation in this species. That’s why I get so annoyed by the use of the term “lacewing” in any species; it’s so much clearer just to use the actual gene names.

Absolute beautiful birds. The violet one is breath taking. I bet it is hard to get hold of one of them in exact same colour. Stunning.

Thank you! Actually most of the mutations produce exactly the same shade and markings every time to it’s pretty predictable that’s one reason why it’s important to label the mutations correctly.
