I'm just surprised she didn't just eat the food in the end. She just drops it in a "Ungrateful chicks I tell ya!!" way.

Yes the food was dropped in an empty nest. I guess the nest was smelling bad after a while. Though sometimes the babies return to the nest at night.

Reminds me of my first "pet" birds. It was a family of Robins who built a nest out side of my bedroom window in a tree. While standing under the tree they were about at eye level and I got to watch them grow up. Never did anything other than talk softly to them. I would have remained silent, but I commented on the location to the parents while they were building the nest and so I decided they did not mind me.
