Need help with sun conure

What is the most important thing to do when you bring home a preowned bird. He is lunging at cage and trying to bite. When will I know when it is time to try and get him to step up.

How long have you had him? For now I would just sit next to the cage and talk to him. After a little while when he seems to have calmed down you can try to offer him treats through the cage. Just hold the treat there so he learns that your hand isn't a threat and he gets used to it. Then try the same thing inside the cage. It could be slow so don't get frustrated.
