Just the other day, my ekkie started digging in the kitchen trashcan. Trash can lid is a dome shape with a hinge door.

Besides replacing the trash can with a different type of lid, is there another way to get him to stop? So far he just knows not to do it when someone is around.

thanks

provide a similar "digging" activity near the bird's cage maybe (or foraging paper-type toys)? Just probably not in something that looks like a trash can, as that could encourage dangerous behaviors. Figure out what he likes about the trash can (food, paper, mechanized lid, color, your reaction when catching him etc) and try to meet similar needs in a safer way.

Station training to stay perched unless called

physical barriers ( trash in a cabinet etc)

What do you do when you catch him?
