Neytiri's preen gland is either impacted or infected. She's pulled all the down from it and its rather red swollen and oozy. I have vet apt in the am. There are a few pin feathers coming in there too.

I was planning on using warm compress and aloe gel tonight to help her. The gel I bought also has vitamin e. is this ok??

I think vit e is ok, but I'm not 100% sure, sorry =(

Just wanted to give you a reply, I know what it's like to see the views go up but no replies!

My first thought is yes it should be ok. Although I am not a vet. I know the warm compress is a great idea and the aloe is good too to aid in healing as well as helping it hurt less.

Oh that sounds terrible, I'm glad you have a vet appointment scheduled.

Maybe a warm wet cloth would help to relieve any pressure some? Although I'm not a vet so I can't say for sure if that would help or not. Keep us updated, I hope she is alright.

Yup it was infected. Vet said its like a pimple. Continue warm compress and aloe. Along with pain meds and antibiotic.

Thanks she is improving but she's still pulling down feathers and now is sleeping on her water bowl. My poor baby.

Poor baby, it's probably irritating her so much. I can only repeat what the others have said about aloe and warmth.

Keep her eating and stuff, try and keep the house as stress free as possible, maybe make the lights dimmer earlier so she thinks to 'rest' earlier. Keep us updated, thinking of you. :(

Things got a little worse. The gland seems to be healing but the picking continued. All around her bum, up the sides, backs of the legs. Yesterday am when ingot her up she was covered in blood. She chewed herself up pretty bad. Hubby took her to vet for me as I couldn't get out of work. The put a cone on her that she promptly destroyed. Plucking her neck in the process. So back to vet last night for different type. She's very clumsy in it. I feel bad for her but she needs a chance to heal.

Still haven't seen improvement with her skin where she plucked. It's still crusty. Called the vet and they prescribed an ointment for her. Hopefully that will help. Fingers crossed.

Its bad when a bird is irritated to the point of plucking... poor thing. Its like a person who can't leave a cut or bruise alone....

Hope your baby starts feeling better.
