- My first bird was a parakeet named Buddy (passed away November 8, 2012). My newest friend is a parakeet named Chipper.
Lately, Chipper has been getting really clingy. He's very friendly (though has an attitude sometimes!) And he's been wanting to come out of his cage a lot more. He climbs around back and forth on the bars by the door, and he'll start chirping and squawking. That's how I know he wants to come out. So I open the door and he jumps right on my hand. I take him out of his cage a lot anyway and pet him and hold him. Now whenever I leave the room, he starts squawking!
Well, getting back to my question...lately he has also been playing with his food. He keeps tossing seeds out of his bowl. I know he's doing it on purpose. At first, I thought maybe he was just picking out what he wanted and tossing the rest out. But now I think he's trying to tell me something. Maybe he doesn't like his food? Or maybe he has some kind of birdie tempter tantrum?
He is eating (I see broken seed shells in his bowl) and he's doing fine. But I'm just wondering why he's playing with his food! He's wasting a lot.
Do any of your birds do this, and do you have any idea why Chipper might be doing that?
