Why is my bird digging?

My family caique, Tinkerbell is doing a lot of digging to the point where she is developing a rugburn on her nose. My family and I are doing out best to stop her so it can heal but she just keeps doing it in a different area. She'll dig in her bed (which is a hanging bowl) the bottom of het cage and even when we hold her. She is 11 years old and had only started doing this excessively last month any advice on why she could be doing this would help a lot, thanks.

digging is a nesting behavior as our cockatoo has done it for years
