Hello, I have a two questions. Question one... I feel we are making great progress with our young (was told less than a year) Temneh. We have had her just over a week now. When she is perched and in her cage, she seems to be relaxed when We approach her. She puffs her feathers a lot and is bowing with the one leg thing, and lifting her wings. Teeko is coming and taking a peanut from our hand now as well. He is still is growling a lot though, even when he is taking the peanut. I have a t-stand that is in my dining room/kitchen area where I spend a lot of my time and was wondering when I should start putting him on it. His cage is in the living room with us. Do I wait for her to do the step up thing, or try to place him there with him screaming. I haven't yet held him or touched him. I am waiting on him. Will he eventually let me touch him, or do I just start holding him with him screaming.
Question two...Teekomwas on a dried corn and peanut diet when I got him. Living in W. Africa and buying him off the street from a national, this is what he got. The first few days he ate the cut veggies I gave him very well, morning time. I then gave him pellets mixed with a some seeds mix. He loves it. But now the last few days he is not touching his veggies all morning. Mid-afternoon I change to pellets. Should I just continue this regimen veggies morning, pellets afternoon, and peanuts only for treats to work with him? thanks for your in-put in advance. Gin

I would recommend to continue trying to build trust on his terms. You want him to feel comfortable with you and relaxed, not be stressed and afraid.

As far as the vegetables go, maybe try a different presentation?

Thank you, Teeko had a fabulous day yesterday. Ate all the veggies in morning hours, then gobbled pellots and seed mix in pm hours. I placed his new t-stand perch right up against his cage and he gladly went onto the perch and ate some peanuts I had placed in food dish. He is fluffing feathers, bowing, lifting wings high, and walking towards me some when I talk to him. I love seeing the progress. It's so fun. I love my Teeko!
