1 cage 2 birds

I haven done anything yet, and really do want to hear all ideas and opinions.

I have Rove in this cage, originally purchased by me for a rinkneck. The 2 birds are gettinh on well, and sometimes are in the one cage anyway by choice when the doors to both are open.

Cockatiels and Budgies are commonly in the same aviary, and this cage isn't small. It would be nice for them to have a 'friend' snd more space yes?

Would you put a cockateil and budgie in this cage together?

Remember I would love your opinions but I havent touched it yet.

Well it's not like it hasn't been done before. Talk to Eclectica about it, I know she's done something similar with her different sized birds.

Another option to consider, which I LOVE is a cage like this...I dont' know where the pic is, but I'm sure it's somewhere on this post.

I saw one similar to this that actually had a divider between the two different heights. It was a removable divider, so if you saw that your two were getting on how you had thought they were, you can always just divide them.

Unless I missed something, they are right now in separate houses and are playing nicely during outings?

How are they or do they interact on each other's houses? In other words, have you seen how each behaves when one visits the other's homes?

In the past, when we've kept multiple birds in one house we always made sure there was enough room to provide movement for each as well as a high perch (height is respect) for each, on the same level as the others. It's like roommates and turf issues, but we always made sure there was room for a high (but all on the same level) perch for each bird in the house.

We also removed a bird who wanted to take over all of the high perches and put him/her in a house that we set lower than the highest perch in the other house.

Caging two birds of relatively equal size more comes down to maintaining yourself as 'alpha' flock and them as equals. Cockatiels and budgies have and will happily lived in the same house. My only advice would to ensure that you set up a 'high' but equal level for each in the house.

My only concern, is that they may love each other more then they love you. I have my tiels together, but they are just friends. That could be the case for you too. Idon't know but I have heard that is not the normal case.

Chewy - do your teils ever sit close or do they just kinda hiss when one comes in the others bubble? I was just wondering what was normal for Misty and Daisy - because they call to each other and chitter and chatter but they don't ever prean each other or even sit within 4 inches of each other.

I experienced a cockateil hiss last night - glad thats normal!
Tried it, fine during the day, cant handle the night.
So back to their own cages for the time being. And I'll just keep taking it slowly from here on in
