So darn pretty! Currently I have little spring iris, daffodils and fruit tree blossoms. Will try to get pics when I take a break for lunch - that will make my day brighter

I have dewberry, native black cherry, viburnum, dogwoods, redbud, and so much more! Best spring flowers in a long time !

Yards with just grass are considered waste lands, they support little wildlife or diversity, waste water, and put nitrates and chemicals into ground water. So well done!

As, our 'wasteland' supports a very wide range of wildlife: Deer, Turkey, Canada Geese, Hoot Owls, Rabbits, Squirrels, a full cross-section of mid to small birds as we are the nesting area of two Robin families every late Spring. Plus, we are a high-speed training area for young Red Tail Hawks each late Spring as five families bring in their young to practice turns... What uses those grasslands in the dark of night, I'm not sure, but their left behinds imply its fairly well used.

And, I almost forgot, every three years, our backyard is overrun with young frogs from the wetlands just to the North of us. And, the mid to larger Pretors feast for weeks...

Not all wastelands are equal...

Oh don't make me pull out statistics! Lol
A yard that had bushes and trees, and or flower beds is different.
A huge grass only yard, supports little, especially if mowed short and treated with pesticides.

All that you described has to shelter and live elsewhere as they don't hang out in a wide open empty grass only yard.

Oh so very true good friend!
Being near surrounded by bushes, tree and a sizable wetland area to the North, we end-up being the place that the wildlife comes to enjoy the sunlight and thick deep grass...

Not all wastelands are equal...

Wow, we got Robins in our yard, six of them!!!
With the warm rain last night, there are worms at the surface...
So, we not only have Robins, but they are also very happy...
