1st M2 bite

So i was helping out at the local rescue. Fixing holes in the aviary wire that the Toos had chewed. Lots of different toos glad to help me out, LOL. It was hard to put on "hog rings" without a foot,tongue,or beak in the way. Oh, did i mention watching out for the toos that attack from the ground, without warning.Anyway i had one helper,Molly, a very friendly M2 who kept grabbing my finger with her foot. I didn't think much of it until she bit the crap out of me. I bled all over everything, she got me on the end of my finger. Pretty good. two days later, it's still numb, and hurts. She cut it good but also "mashed" it . I've been bit by lots of different birds, i hope i never get bit by another too. Ya'll can have the dang things.

It's nasty isn't it? My worst bites came from cockatoos. One was by a goffin and another was by a U2.

My worst "slash" bite was from a yellow nape, but the worst "mash" bite was an M2. They can do some real damage.

Eeuuuwww, Richard! That put tears in my eyes just thinking about it! Don't muck around with it - if you still have numbness in the finger after a day or two, get it checked out. Dear little Molly might have done nerve damage!

On a different note, I think you're a hero for volunteering at the rescue.

We don't seem to have rescues here in Australia, which is very odd to me. I see so very many neglected and abused birds, I'd think there'd be lots of rescues, but the only one I know of is an online one. It advertises 'rescue birds for adoption', but I notice the photos rarely change. That is, few birds leave and few arrive. ???

Nope. Both my sets of stitches came from macaws. One large (Shamrock), one small (Severe)...

But I've never been bit by an M2. Only cuddled. Of course, he did scream until my ears bled when I went to put him back... but that is an entirely different sort of injury!

I feel for you...

The thing about too bites, is you really don't see it coming...

With a macaw, an amazon, or an eckie, you know full well that bird is going to nail you if you persist... they tell you right up front.

A too? Not so much...

Tell me about it, she had been "holding " my fingers for an hour or two. Followed me around and was generally a "pita", hard to get much done with so much "help",LOL. The bite caught me completely off guard. She then seemed upset i wouldn't let her hold my finger anymore.Crazy bird, Oh yes, they do have the worst screech, especially when about 10 of them get going.
