He seems to be. Sometimes he'll look at me when I say his name so he definitely recognizes it.Is Nelson still happy with his name.
I may have discovered what inspired me to try that name. I'm a fan of horse racing. During the summer, races from the Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York are shown live on television 5 afternoons a week, and I watch most days. I used to go to the races there two or three times a year for many years.
When I was trying out different names I borrowed some from jockeys, horse trainers and owners and even a few horses, names that I heard on the television broadcasts. There's a racehorse called Nelson Avenue, named for the street that runs alongside the Race Course. That could have been in the back of my mind when I tried it out on Nelson and it was the only name he reacted to.
It's probably a good thing that I wasn't thinking of Secretariat or Man o' War when I tossed out names, but Fierceness would be appropriate when Nelson is in a feisty mood.
