Chopper - Sun Conure
What kind of wood are these bird toys made from and are the substitutes I can use?

Chopper lives up to his name...nothing lasts long for him.

And what is the best way to potty train him?

Most wooden parrot toys are made from Pine or a hardwood. I'd go for hardwood toys if they're being destroyed faster than you like, but maybe you're buying toys meant for a much smaller bird? OR buy pine toys which are for bigger birds so they'll last longer.

Better yet if you have the means to do so, make your own. Either buy pieces of untreated wood from a store which sells raw wood, or collect some locally as long as no pesticides or chemicals have been sprayed on or near it. Cut pieces, drill holes, and string together with clean rope, leather, or shoe laces. OR... If you want toys to look nice too, and you have the time, do a search of the forum under the Do It Yourself section and get some really creative and eye catching ideas.

As far as "substitutes" for wood, there are other materials parrots love too. Bird safe plastic, leather, rope, stainless steel... Another good place to get great toys are from trusted online pet websites.

For pooping on command, watch your bird, and everytime you catch them pooping, say "poop". After a while, they'll start to learn what that means. Then every 15-20 mins or so, hold the bird over paper, trash can, or whatever designated area and say "poop". If they learn what it means, and they have to go, they should do it. Others might have a different method.
