2 new young budgies

Hello Everyone,
I am new to Parrot Forums and have a few questions about our young budgies we just got 4 days ago. It looks to me that i have a boy and a girl. I am about 95% certain on the girls gender but the one i believe to be a boy has the bluish/pinkish/purple cere which makes me believe boy, but it also looks to have white around the nostrils. Its pretty young still being that it still has the bars going all the way down to its cere and black button eyes. So i know it may be a lil early. I hope i have attached the picture right. If i have, please let me know what you think. I believe the white is the female.

I do not have experience with budgies so I won't be able to help with the gender issue but I am glad you found us here. The photo of your new additions is lovely. Did you have any other questions in mind as far as parrot ownership? I'd be happy to answer any more questions you may have. There are many members here that own these little guys.

Anyways,
I am curious about the right diet for them. I have bird seed for parakeet but also bought broccoli, romane lettuce, celery, oranges, apples, and unsalted roasted peanuts. I have only fed them the romane lettuce successfully. The were not interested in the apple, broccoli or orange.

It is great that you are reaching out here and trying to offer new food. Most parrot owners will recommend a diet containing mostly fresh fruits and veggies, a high quality pellet and seed only occasionally, as most seed mixes are very high in fat for our birds. It is okay to keep feeding seed to them as you continue to keep trying to find things they may like.

Presentation I have noticed with my birds is key -- they will not pick at a food that has not been chopped up pretty finely. A useful thing to try may be to combine both their seed with the chopped up fruits an veggies you give them so the seed ends up sticking to the new stuff. Try as much variety as you can, more veggies than fruits (since fruits have a lot of sugar) and try to find a favorite they may like.

You can try so many veggies and fruit, most are totally safe to give to our birds, the only things to AVOID feeding them are avocado, onion, garlic, rhubarb, chocolate, alcohol.

they appear to be very young, in a short time it'll be very apparent what gender they are. they wont eat much at first just be persistent. once they feel at home they'll be confident enough to try just about anything.

It's so hard, even the most well-trained/expert eye can make mistakes! I have misgendered babies on multiple occasions. To hazard a guess though, white baby does look to be female, left I'm not so sure, just like you! I've had baby females and baby males with very similar looking ceres. Maybe others have some more insight.

Today my white bird is acting a lil agitated. She does have her wings clipped and wasnt doing this at first. Today she is acting like she cant get them comfortable. One of her wings she keeps sticking out and acting like she is trying to get something out from under it. Then when i walk up around cage to grab something from around the cage she looks like she wants to take off. So i felt she was just nervous. But now it looks like she cant get comfortable.

Your keets are darling <3 From experience, I know that you will not be able to determine gender for at least 8/10 months after owning them, because they mature and fully develop. Their ceres will turn different colors every now and then, making you think they are one gender or another, but when their ceres are a deep blue, they are a male. When their ceres are a peachy dark brown, they are a female.
