My little boy, my little guy, Baby, is 23 and would be 24 in October. 2 days ago, I woke up and one of his eyes were shut. It still is. He stopped eating, drinking and pooping. I laid down paper towels and folded 2 shirts at the bottom of his cage.
Just 2 days ago, he was eating and drinking water and walking on my bed as well as chirping and whistling. He chirped and whistled little bit with me and my family. I've been playing old videos of him whistling and talking and chirping to him.
I've been talking to him and telling him how much of a long life we've shared together, how many great moments we've had, and thanking him for the life that we've had. I told him that he is always going to be in my heart and that he has always going to be with me.
From the movie "Paulie," there was a song in it "I loved you the first time I saw you. And I always will love you." That's what I've been singing to him.
I am already feeling empty and it's going to leave a big hole in my heart and space when he goes. In some way, maybe months from now, I thought about getting another cockatiel that is a normal grey and calling him Baby too. I would be living in his memory and recreating memories but also make new ones but for right now my time is with Baby and ensuring he has peace and comfort.
