Congrats on your new addition! He's adorable.

Unfortunately, parrots are parrots. They love to make noise and scream. A lot of parrots scream just for fun (especially in the morning and evening), and sometimes they flock-call (calling to a flock mate, whether it's avian or human). Busy beaks are quieter beaks, but you can't ever truly eliminate all the noise they make. The most you can do is keep him occupied with stuff to do in his cage.

Did the previous owners have other birds or other pets? If they did, sounds like your new bird may be lonely & calling for old friends, possibly even its old owners.....what toys does your new bird have to keep it occupied?

Did it have toys at its previous home.....if it didn't have toys, it is possible you will have to show it how to play with them as contrary to popular thinking, birds don't hatch out ready to play with this year's industry favorites.....

What makes you think the bird may have been abused? Three days is not a suitable length of time for a bird to get used to a new home & new owners.....everything is different...smells, sounds, surroundings and people.....do you have other pets, dogs or cats?

I've had birds that took over a year to really become sociable, but without some more background information on this bird.....how long did the previous owners have it, how old is the bird (sorry, you did say it was 3yo), my thoughts are that you just need to wait longer.....

thank you for your replys yum yum is 3 yrs old the last owners had a small dog as well the same as us , yum yum came with lots of toys like bells , ladders , wooden man , etc and we have ordered some more toys for him , the last owner said that yum yum likes to have a bath with the spray bottle that he came with when we show him the bottle he runs everytime to bed , we are not sure how long the last owner had yum yum we think it was from birth , the reason they gave for selling him was due to work allday so yum yum had no company , we have had prince of wales parakeets before and they where sociable but we understand it will take a while , we have noticed that yum yum likes certain music as well as the odd treat including tasting our fingers , we was just woundering about the spray issue , thanks

Sorry, I just corrected my previous post, you did say it was 3yo.....given the running from the spray bottle, I might be inclined to put a large dish of water in the cage or otherwise available for it to bathe in instead of chasing it around for a spray bath.....when it's ready to bathe, it will avail itself of the large dish of water, but be prepared for a mess.....all of my birds enjoy bathing at least once a week, but often on a more frequent basis, my nanday wants a bath every day.....the previous owners may have misted/sprayed as a convenience for them, rather than being the bird's choice.....

My birds personally LOVE to have spray baths. I know that they love them because whenever I start misting them they start shaking up their feathers and spreading their wings and tails as they try to get water on every feather possible.

If you jump to 2:09 in the video below, you'll see the cockatiel demonstrating the same actions that I'm talking about.

When my birds DON'T want to bath, it's clear. They'll often try to run away from the water or just sit on their perch like miserable, soaked cats.

I wouldn't expect any bird to be comfortable enough to bath so soon after transitioning to a new home. Give him some time to settle in. If he still doesn't like the spray bottle, you can try other methods of bathing him (offering a shallow container of water, putting his cage out in the rain, etc.).

thank you for your replys i know the last owner said about this misting them they start shaking up their feathers and spreading their wings and tailsbut when we try and do this yum yum will hide , would it be ok to get a bird bath and they said they did try a bowl of water and yum yum just tipped it over , why does a parrot like tasting your fingers ? yum yum will not really nip but he will taste our fingers i suppose thinking it is a nut ? we have given yum yum a bit of apple he seems to like this so we put some in the bowl he wont touch it he seems to eat eg: apple when being fed , thanks

Can't speak to why he is interested in licking fingers unless you use a lot of salt or other condiments on your foods and it permeates your skin.....a couple of my birds are like that with apples.....some times they eat them right up, while other times I end up throwing them out.....
