Hi. Our rosellas bred for the first time this year. 6 eggs, 1 chick. (Staggered lay and hatch, female birds first clutch)
After 3 weeks, both parents were barely visiting chick in nesting box, so the rash decision to remove chick was made, and I have been hand rearing now for 5 days. First time doing this.. thank fully not as hard or scary as I thought it was going to be.
I think chick is now in its 4th week. I’m not sure as to when to start weaning it, so advice required!
Also, how often outside of feeding it, should I interact with it? We have a bond (it has seen me since it’s eyes opened) and it trusts me, I appreciate this won’t last though!
It associates me with food, and gets excited to see me.. it does a little happy dance when I go in to get it..!

Thanks for adding this. I would just like to add, the removal of the chick was for its own good. The parents were ignoring it, not feeding it, and leaving it alone in the nest box overnight.
I had been sitting outside the aviary for hours, watching their behaviour, and they are far more interested in each other, than the chick.

Perfectly understandable, plenty if reasons chick's happen and have to pulled.

Great job in getting them to this point.
